What is the exact focus of your study? I'm curious!

Keep in mind that this poll is not representative of the general population. People that are interested in their vehicles will join and post on an automotive forum. Those people are more likely to care for their vehicles and so you'll have a high percentage of people buying premium car care products here.

And I use Mobil 1 5W-30 full synthetic and Mobil 1 filters.

yea...when I got my truck at 65,000 miles it only knew conventional oil..I decided to make the switch at 70,000 and now at 80,000 I have a very small leak in the gasket....not enough to make me overly worried but it's still there..I'm hypothesizing that it's because fully synthetic oil is thinner and the conventional oil may have stretched or pushed on the gaskets yet it was not thin enough to get through..and now the synthetic is making it's way through..I guess I'll just keep an eye on it.

EDIT: I'm on Mobile 1 5w-30 of course

    ^ this

I have free oil changes for the first 50K, so I just use what the dealer puts in...I think it's Pennzoil 10W-30.

Don't believe it's due to synthetic oil, my 04 Taco developed a leak in the oil pan gasket at 58k (under waranty) and it always had dino oil. The newer trucks (2011, not sure about 2010 models) are coming with synthetic oil and their gaskets are set up for synthetic now. This was a problem with older vehic's but not so much anymore. The pan gasket is not too bad of a job on the 2.7 four cylinder, what year and engine is yours and where is the leak?

Oil analysis? I though this was going to be about about spectroscopic oil analysis... I'm writing a not too fun thesis on that shit right now... Would be nice to have a cheap way to do it to my motor oil and find out how my engine is running though!

I use amsoil in everything. I've ran it in my truck for bout year and ita Bren great. But after I changed the diff and tranny is when I truely started loving it. My mpg went up and the truck jus ran better. I put bout 125 a day on my truck so I jus thought it would save he money and it's a great oil. I run amsoil in everything I own now.

I have had good luck in past vehicles with Shell Rotella T full synthetic. It comes in gallon jugs at Wally World and is actually marketed as a diesel engine oil. It supposedly has additives that they don't put in passenger car oil that protects better against wear. I noticed an instant improvement in valve train noise when I started using it on my WRX.
