The mobil1 extended 0w-20 was what the dealer used in my tacoma during toyota care.

This is what I personally like to use.Its affordable and decent oil.
    Havoline Lifelong 0W-20 Full Synthetic

    https://www.walmart.com/ip/seort/274405536

I change my oil every 5K miles. You'll get a million different answers to your question. My personal belief is use decent oil, change it regularly and your truck will take care of you. They are great as long as you do all the specified maintenance. Good luck!

P.S. There's enough oil in this container for one oil change. One and done lol

I buy mine online from Walmart...last purchase was 2 boxes.

You can see the edge of the box/upper left hand corner.

Why try to skimp and save. Mobil 1 is the simple answer. 0w20 and drive. If my 5.7 tundra could take the 0w20 for 231k prior to selling and running perfect so can my tacomer. With that said, I happen to have over 25 gallons of shell gas and truck 0w20, that I got for pennies basically. So, I will use that and change at 5 to 6k. I used it in the tundra the last 10k and saw no difference in usage compared to Mobil 1. But, paying retail at Walmart, mobil1 0w20. Done

Mobil 1 caused my truck to develop an insanely loud erratic tick, ill never use that junk again.

after about 2 changes worth back to TGMO the tick is completely gone

I've been buying whatever Walmart has in 0w20 on the shelf or whatever I can find a good deal on. I been buying Supertech. When I first got the truck I found quarts of Shell Rotella gas truck on clearance at advanced auto for 2.29 so I got all they had left, enough for more than 2 oil changes.
I would just buy Supertech or any name brand that was in stock at Walmart when I needed it or Pennzoil, Castrol, or Havioline. Whatever was on the shelf at a fair price.
I used to be very loyal to Castrol GTX when I had Gas cars in the past, now I see that as unnecessary. When I had The Jeep Liberty CRD for over a decade before getting the Tacoma I needed a diesel rated 5w40 for that Jeep. Nothing was really available widely in that but Rotella T6 5w40 so I just used that and it was fine stuff.

I just changed the oil on a new-to-me 2021 with 29,000 miles. I used Mobil 1 0w20 truck and suv formula full synthetic with a Toyota filter kit. The truck is noticeably noisier on start-up for about 5 seconds and has the same described "erratic tick." I test drove a dozen of these 2020+ trucks in the past couple months and it is much more prevalent than the "3.5s are noisy in general comment." I am draining that out after 4 days and refilling with TGMO. I felt paranoid at first, but now am confident there is something off. Oil level is good, nothing leaking, etc. I found this comment and felt a mix a relief and justified paranoia. Is this what you used and have you had any changes since?

Honestly this is such a kind forum to allow multiple thread bumps from a four-year-old thread for no reason that is about an issue that has been talked about in 1000 other threads since then. we are blessed to have what is actually a very kind online community here.

I’d ask the question about why everyone is using 0/20 but I won’t. But I just did…Shit…. Hehehehe. Friday threads make my day…you know if we had these on Monday instead it might be better…

Yup thats the stuff to use right there. I haven’t used anything else since and run my engine pretty hard especially in deep snow up here in nor cal. Recently sent in a sample to an oil lab on a 5k mile oil change and the results came back with proper oil condition and properties, no indications of abnormal wear
