While there may be some truth to that article, the fact remains that Toyota requires that I use 0w-20 oil in my in my '13 2.7L. That limits me to synthetics...which means that I'm going to pay a little more for it than conventional oil. Would a 5w-20 conventional oil work? Probably...but why take the chance while I'm under warranty? Besides, I can handle the added cost of a syn OC every 5K miles.

For the record I use M1 and a PureOne filter because they're both easily available. Meijer carries both for a reasonable price.

I use regular motor oil. Always have in all my vehicles. Never any issues and its much cheaper than synthetic.

Mobil 1 and either an OEM or Mobil 1 filter for me. 10 years, and never one issue in any of my cars. That's enough proof for me.

That article lost me after the first paragraph. I didn't know that the American Society for Testing Materials are not "independent" from the thousands of companies they do testing for. Is this writer suggesting that because the companies seeking to acquire one of the 12,000+ international quality standards ASTM is responsable for have to pay for the testing means the tests themselves are not reliable? Is everything ASTM does fake?

All I know is that Amsoil has been tested to death both by Amsoil themselves and independently by companies such as ASTM. What's more is that thousands apon thousands of users have had their oil samples tested in various stages of use from a lab of their choice with out complaint. Amsoil's numbers/claims have never been challanged by a competitor either nor have they ever been sued for false claims.

For me Amsoil is the product to use, in my case for both the cold start advantages and extended service intervals. Where I live you don't want to be servicing your truck in the middle of the winter, it can get bitter cold up here. Being able to change my oil twice a year in spring and fall and not have to worry about it is a big plus for me. Technically with the amount of driving I do each year I could get away with one change a year and still be within Amsoils" severe" change interval by a wisker. I'm going to change twice a year though because of concerns with build up in the EA filter. In any case, twice a year with Amsoil or 3-4 times a year with regular oil and the cost is a moot argument. Hell , I would actually save money using Amsoil if I went to the recommended change intervals!
