Hello all! I'm new here and looking to see what is the best oil and filter to use with my 2013 4.0?

    Thanks in advance!

OEM "D3" filter i think we can all agree on is the best.

:popcorn::popcorn::popcorn::popcorn: here for the oil convo tho

(Pennzoil platinum full synthetic 5w30 is my choice as of late)

But realistically if you are good, change your oil and filter every 5k with properly sped oil (conventional, blend, full synthetic dont matter) and filter (with any reputable manufacture) your motor will live a LONG LONG life.

OEM filter, take your pick of 5W-30 oil (my preference is Valvoline Syn but you will get thousands of opinions on the "right" oil), and change it every 5k or less if you do alot of short trips/idling.

My truck has made it 160k using the cheapest of oil. I never used synthetic until recently, because just about all the 5w-30 is SynBlend now.

My point, the 1GR isn’t picky.
Proper oil level and frequent changes is more important.

I won't tell you what's best (everybody has their opinions) but I will tell you what I use.
Actually I'll start with what I used to use. Napa 5W-30 dino, until Napa dropped it. Now I use Napa 5W-30 blend.
And always OEM oil filter. And every 5K miles, change oil & filter, grease the u-joints, and rotate tires.

Seriously, don't overthink it. Any oil that meets the specs in the owner's manual will work fine, as will most filters.
The most important thing is regular maintenance, and that includes fresh oil & filter every 5K miles.

    Thanks Xsplicer!
The manual calls for conventional and that is hard to find! Hoping the blended pennzoil works!

Any oil of the right viscosity will be just fine. Including WalMart Super tech.

I didn't put the oil in yet that's why I'm checking with you guys. The manual recommends Toyota OEM but the local dealers don't sell it?! I just bought the truck.

It also says, (see bold text)

“Toyota Genuine Motor Oil” is used in your Toyota vehicle. Use
Toyota approved “Toyota Genuine Motor Oil” or equivalent to satisfy the following grade and viscosity.

EQUIVALENT = Oil grade: ILSAC GF-5 multigrade engine oil

    You’re good my man.
    Pour it in:thumbsup:
