Motor Squealing

Got belts tightened and checked

Could it be the timing belt
happens on start and low speeds

 

Probably the accessory belts. Mine is doing the same thing.

 

Timing belt is toothed. Likely an accessory belt. The tensioner went out on mine and it did the same.

 

faulty T-chain on a 2.4L would be a much more horrible sound than a squeal

Serpentine belts are a funny thing… they are nothing more that lots small V belts all in one. It is the V that provides the grip and when the belt gets worn there isnt enough V. Gates makes a free belt checker, here is an article and some info.

Squirt water on the ribbed side of the belt as it's running and it will immediately quiet if that's it. Tightening it doesn't help unless it was really really loose. They get damaged from coolant, grime, or the friction of slipping too many times if it was loose.
