Try the New Honda CBR250.or Ninja 250.....You will smoke 600RR riders in the twisties and when you are ready for a larger ride.....You will get most of your money back. Those little rides are a lot of fun. I ride a 1300 twin cruiser but am waiting for the Honda CBR thumper to show up at the local dealer.

A little of this and a little of that.
Congrats on the permit. Have you thought of taking a MSF (motorcycle safety foundation) course? Lots of good life saving exercises and tips.

What kind of bike are you looking for? Sport, cruiser, SM, dual sport? Lots to chose from. Good luck.

Congrats on the permit....now get in the seat time!! There is nothing more valuable than that at this stage of the game.

Find others to ride with and don't do anything you are not comfortable with just to "keep up with the Jones" as that will get you hurt or worse.

Dualsport dirt bikes are good for starters, especially if you're already used to dirt bikes. I had an XT 350 for my first road bike but it would be screaming at highway speeds. It depends on how long you want to keep it for and what kind of riding you do. The Suzuki SV650 is a good little bike that is forgiving but you also won't be disappointed with it after a month of riding. The YZF600 or Katana 600 are a couple other decent starter bikes. They're quick but much less high strung than a race bike and again, you won't get bored with them quickly like you may with a 250 or 500. Look into the motorcycle safety course!

My 1st bike was a Yamaha Radian. Very controllable yet quick enough to have some fun. They're usually pretty cheap and super dependable. If you're over 6' I would pass though.

Take the time to get yourself into a MSF course. They can be found through community colleges or dealerships. It's money well spent and if you pass the road test there you just walk into your license bureau with your permit stamped for your license. Took my test on Sunday, licensed on Monday.
