Best time for an IBA ride in this part of the country is mid June. You want a day with the greatest number of hours of daylight possible, warm yet not too hot. For your first one I'd recommend taking the easy way out. Pick a route with lots of interstate yet not too close to major cities. Leave out early in the morning slightly before actual sunrise. I like combining it with some sort of mission or places to stop even if only for a few minutes. First Saddlesore ride my g/f went along on was a Tour of Honor ride. We left out from a gas station 1 mile from our house at around 4:00 am in mid June and headed south with our first stop in VA after burning through a full tank of fuel and refilling to a memorial in Reedville, VA then on to another memorial in Fort Monroe, VA which is close to Virginia Beach where we lost a little time due to traffic. From here we continued south to Coinjock, NC where we hit a little snag locating the memorial but managed. Heading away form the ocean next was Ayden, NC to a memorial then we began looking for a place to eat and being in NC barbecue was in the plan. I had allotted time for us to grab a sit down meal and we did manage to do just that after stopping at an auto parts store for a tail light bulb to replace one that had burned out in my FJR.

Now it's time to head back home so we hit a memorial in Danville, VA then hopped on the interstate and make a final stop in Lynchburg, VA just as the sun is setting for one last memorial. Form here we made a straight shot home. In addition to the 6 Tour of Honor memorials I also manged to snag 2 Team Strange States of Confusion bonus locations and 2 Facebook Ride to Eat Challenge locations. We refilled the gas tank back at the station we'd started form 22.5 hours after leaving having covered 1109 miles.

Breaking it down we made 10 different stops to take photos for events I was participating in, made 5 fuel stops during the ride, and had about a 30-40 minute dinner break. Longest stretch of just riding was the very beginning and very end where we ran about 200+ miles without stopping. Keep in mind that 1000 miles in 24 hours only requires an average speed of 42 mph. Every hour spent on interstate is like banking 20 minutes you can spend later. Flip side of that is that it can get boring and you might not feel like you've seen much. I basically bookended that ride with a couple of hours at each end getting to and returning from my target area where we would actually see things and get a little sightseeing in.

If and when any of you guys want to plan a ride of this nature I'd be more than happy to look over your proposed route and offer any help I can. The hardest one is the first one and honestly the biggest block is the mental block we all put up until we do one. Beware though, after that first one it becomes way easier to start looking at doing more and traveling farther by bike.

Took a quick scoot before work. Did all my precheck stuff and all is working. Wife was behind me for a bit before she headed to work, and she confirmed lights are all operational. However, if I check codes, it shows the turn signals are out of whack. Any ideas??

Did you replace incandescent lights with LED's and didn't put in a resistor?

Yes I have all LED lights and I did not install a resistor. However, I’m not getting the hyper flash I did in my truck when I replaced to LEDs....:notsure:

    Thank you.

1 local dealership failed by not picking up the phone. Another quoted me just over $100 for oil, filter, crush washer. The third one has the filter and crush washer for $24, and Ill get the 15w50 oil at the car parts store for $13/quart. That saves me $25. Im happy with that.

I'm guessing that's the issue then. Hyperflash normally only is a thing if it's an analog flasher module, like one that heats up, releases, cools down, closes the contact, heats up, releases etc etc. If you have a digital flasher relay it won't be necessary to have a load on it for it to function at the correct speed. ECM is probably looking for a specific resistance or impedance or something in the circuit its not seeing and thus sending up the code.

You should do some googling and see if that's a setting you or a dealer can change in the computer. I know on my BMW I can set the signals to LED or regular bulbs using a OBD2 interface and an app or the dealer software.

Make sure the self cancel feature is still working! On some models of Harley they rely upon getting a signal back to the module registering a certain amount of resistance and heat generated by the system working. LED might not provide that so you signals may not shut off as they should.
