Just made an account on here, and the next day I find a motorcycle thread, hot damn! The only thing I love more than my Tacoma is my bike, and here she is:

    A, IMHO.

Edit: I feel like maybe I should add why? The frame on the scout, the last picture, has the same curve to it as the exhaust, so it works downturned there. Your frame doesn't have that same curve to it, it's straighter lines and more triangular. In A the exhaust follows the line that would be made if you drew a line between the two axles and I think it looks best. B and C don't have that curve replicated anywhere else on the bike so it kind of looks out of place.

I didn't end up buying the Buell. It had been sitting for 3 years with a full tank and wouldn't turn over, even with a new battery. Plus, it needs new tires, clutch/ brake cables, maybe a new drive belt, and a lot of TLC. The owner is moving and was willing to take whatever I would offer, but I'm not in the mood for a project.

My son picked up a ‘free’ motorcycle from the executor of an estate who was desperately trying to get rid of the last things…..turned out the estate had not filed for an ‘inop registration’ to buy time to figure out what to do with the bike after the owner’s passing. State wanted $1k in back fees and penalties for this PoS project bike.

It ended up being parted out, they did the right thing and paid my son for his time and costs in the fiasco.

Additional comment. I’ve resurrected a couple project bikes and encouraged my son to go for it. Lesson learned on this one was think of all of the costs, not just the carb cleaning and tires and restoring it to running. My project bikes didn’t have title problems or back due fees (blind luck). Just the usual owner claims of ‘ran when parked’.

Do all of your due diligence - mechanical and paperwork and don’t ever pay a seller for ‘trust me, it is ok and it’ll all work out’. And then spend hours and hours over multiple trips to the DMV trying to figure out how to untangle their mess.

CA... see prior conversation. It’s easier when you don’t have the lame InOp registration crap to deal with. MN you pay a $14 late fee if you miss your registration due date. If that’s a day late or 13yrs late, $14. CA wanted to hit me for a large sum when the car had been registered in WA for a while then in storage for like 5 years with lapsed registration. Took my CA title to MN and transferred it out of that system all together.

CA has the worst rules for registration I have ever experienced. That’s saying a lot since I’ve lived in 6 different states and on three continents.

He would have taken $400-$500 for it. It really needs to be completely torn down, cleaned, and rebuilt. Not worth my time and energy right now.

Yeah, I have no desire to dig into a buell either. If it was a Japanese brand it would have been worth it.

I was out of town and just saw this. Rear wheel bearings are the only real weak spot I remember hearing about on those. If I recall there are 3 bearings in the rear wheel, 2 on the drive side, one on the other end. Harley closed the doors on Buell in 2010 so parts availability now will be used stuff or paying a premium on eBay or from someone who hoarded stuff when they had a chance. Should be a nice solid machine. Comfort level will depend on your size. I rode one when they were first introduced and liked it but was a little bunched up on it. They're actually a great track bike with the short wheelbase.
