One bag down, one to go. Swapping the fixed mount plate to a quick disconnect system.

I didn’t know about them until @spencermarkd mentioned it and @cynicalrider said he had one too. When I opened that package in though there were some hidden zip ties holding the clamp to the display card. Turns out the spring in the clamp was super strong and I wasn’t using my manly-man hands to release it. Definitely wasn’t expecting that but pleasantly surprised. Feel pretty confident I won’t lose the camera on the freeway.

I’ve been looking at various ways to mount my bags. The quick release brackets I made work awesome but I want something more streamlined when removed from the bike. The idea I’m chasing is that I can ride to work with my laptop/messenger bag attached to the bike and pull it off and go on about my day. Secondary would be that I can use the same mounts for my pelican cases and/or larger bags for longer or multi day trips. Where I’m struggling is that I want something small and streamlined when the bike is stripped down. I’m finicky about this kind of stuff because I want form and function.

I thought about using bear claw door latches too. But they’re not strong enough to support the weight and shock of bags on their own. Their strength is only on a single axis so twisting the bags or weight shifting like hitting a hard bump could dislodge them.

I have been watching YouTube videos... just swapped in a 18v Milwaukee battery instead of the 6v. Upon further investigation I can also order a faster motor and a speed controller for about $20. We shall see how the kiddo likes the extra speed first.

What about changing the direction of the latch? Could something like this work, if its already for a HD?

Jeez that was a bit much for me. I get where he’s coming from for advice for new riders but I’ve done backpacking with a minimalist set up. I’ve camped off the bike with less than I can carry now with my set up.

he’s got some good points though, find what you need as a bare minimum and build up from there to ensure you’re comfortable. Good sleeping bags, sleeping pads, thermals and layers will pay it forward. Don’t skimp on the things that mean your survival.

For me I pack on my bike almost the same as when I backpack. My tent, bag, pad, water filter and cooking gear is less than 10lbs so there's plenty of room and weight left to bring some extra clothes and comfort stuff. I don't want/need to lug around a 15lb tent that has a garage for my bike and room for a dance party inside.

I was watching the setup of this tent, and already decided that it was way too much. I previously found out that i cant sleep while hanging, but im going to try again with a hammock that i got for Christmas.

I definitely do not need a parking space for my bike though.

I never got into backpacking. First it was a generic ground tent, that eventually got washed away. And then i went to RTTs on the truck. Now im spoiled. We will see how moto camping does for me. I like camping in general, but im also not going to do just the bare bones setup. I need a little comfort

I don’t really consider my setup barebones. I got older and more busted up so I started spending money on the good quality and expensive light weight gear. I have a 2 person tent I can sit up comfortably in that weighs 2.5lbs, 15° down bag at 2lbs and so on. I like to be comfortable and warm still but can’t carry all the dumb stuff I used to when I was 20.

That dude needs to lock the focus on his camera, the constant twitching had me turn it off before he got to #2.

My "bare minimum" doesn't fill my hard cases, so I bring lots of extra shit I probably don't need, but have space for and that don't weigh all that much. Especially the comfort items: pillow, sleeping pad, chair, home made pannier cooler, comfort clothes, extra pair of shoes, etc.

Those tents are huge when broken down and so freaking expensive. Like, they look awesome on the 'gram, but that's about it. And I can't sleep while hanging either.

I used to be really into backpacking. I would hike into the GWNF wilderness areas (nothing with wheels allowed) and stay for 5-10 days with minimal gear. I was blown away when I saw all the gear people took camping on wheeling trips. Creature comforts are nice, but for me it took away from the outdoor experience. I guess that's why I never got into wheeling either. I felt more "outdoors" when I was hiking. But, to each their own.

I really don't have any room to talk shit anymore. Now, I just stay in hotels.
