First work commute since my wreck exactly a year ago. White knuckle all the way. I slowed down for every crossroad anticipating someone would dart out in front of me again. All I could think about was how hard the pavement hurts. The body doesn't forget. I hate that the commute wasn't fun like it once was. It'll change again.

Glad you're healthy and back on 2 wheels!

It takes some time and you will be nervous for a while. Many years ago I hit a deer with the bike and went down. Took a while before I got away from being super paranoid to get back to just being regular paranoid. Stay safe!

    I can't imagine hitting a deer! YIKES!

Yeah, my bones are healed and the weather is nice. I'll have to get my courage back up. 20 years without an incident and then last year's fluke. Lady rolled a stop sign, pulled out directly in front of me, and hit her brakes to turn into her driveway. I did everything right, head on a swivel, anticipated her movement, slowed, braked, and horn. There was just too little time to react to her sudden stop inf front of me. I still managed to miss her bumper and rear window but I took a long slide that resulted in a. broken hand, wrist, and arm. The bike is all fixed up and I am mended, too, physically.

My deer strike was not a shining moment in my riding history yet nothing I could have done. I was actually on my way home from a doctor visit where he determined I did indeed have a hernia. LOL. I was almost home in fact, about 100 yards from turning onto my street. There is a long left hand bend and as I came around to where the road straightens out I could now see a large doe standing broadside in my lane. there was an oncoming car in the left lane and to my right a guard rail with an embankment that slopes down towards a wooded area. No good options here beyond brake as hard as I can and brace for impact. I felt the ass end of the bike get light as I think I was beginning a nice stoppie right before impact. Bike was the Buell shown in my avatar. Fortunate in that no bones broken and my head never hit the ground. The Vanson jacket in the pic was rashed to Hell and my gloves and jeans were ruined. Lots of bruises and sore as all get out though.

Glad you’re back in the saddle. After my wreck, I didn’t get another bike for two years. The first ride was definitely different. It takes some time to get comfortable again but even now, 10 years later I’m still extremely aware every time I ride. Keep at it, those fun rides will come back in no time.

Some people pay money for that. Personally I'm a big fan of the shorty levers.

I was butthurt the first time I did that but then was thankful that it broke at the designed shear point rather then bending or snapping off at the base and being useless.
