Until October...then it's non ethanol 89 until April. I'm in a snow state and the bike will sit more during that time. My bikes are carb'd except for one, and i don't want the ethanol gumming things up. I'd run higher octane if possible but the non-E around me is always 89.

But now, in the warm months, when the bikes are getting out regularly, I'm right there with you.

    Why 93?

Higher octane has no advantage in a low heat low performance engine.

Is it because y’all can’t get ethanol free 87 where you live?

    Enlighten me, oh wise ones.

But why? Better off putting the money towards ethanol free gas

Yeah it's a 17 FE350. Been loving it so far, and I have only had it about a month now so not long lol.

Oh and this pig is still taking space up in the garage:

Wish I had time to ride both, DRZ was fun in it's own way.

That’s the only thing I look for. Every other gas station here or more has ethanol free 87. I’m thinking where they live that’s not an option?

Midwest: very difficult to find non E. Around my house I know where they are, (6 miles to the north or 9 miles to the south, and I'm not rural) so I try to hit them coming or going, but when out and about, it's highly unlikely, unless I were to use the app while riding...which I don't do.\

edit to add: just checked the Pure Gas app for the first time in a long time, and their are definitely more than last time I looked. Maybe it's a trend.

Ethanol free is at least an hour away. And not always available. Im not doing high octane for performance.

i ran regular in the taco for a couple years, but went back to 93, i think she runs better overall albeit maybe a delusion

most of my cars have either been turbo subarus or turbo european so idk just always have and always will choose 93 out of the 3 local viable options

my chainsaw and yard equipment though gets the spendy ethanol free stuff out of a can

Word, figured that was the case.

Here is South Dakota ethanol free is easy to find, but ethanol is also pushed like crazy as it’s the home of all those companies. The town I’m moving out of has a giant refinery and everyone loves to run E35-E85.

Higher octane is simply higher detonation resistance. If a vehicle isn’t having detonation with 87 then 91+ is no different performance.

Somewhere along the line it was common for people to think higher octane would give them more horsepower, not sure when/where/why.

Only one gas station around me has ethanol free gas and it's 45 mins away, but I just recently discovered it even existed a couple months ago. If I knew that I would fill a big 5 gal with it for the mower/powerwasher/drz. I run 93 in the DRZ even though it can run on 87. I have to run 93 in the Husky though. Also shouldn't you technically run a higher octane non ethanol since it doesn't burn as hot?

No need in any engine that is older like our Tacomas (and the DRZ). Some new engines have fancy electronics that can vary how it runs based on what it senses from the different octanes and how they’re burning. Our trucks do not. In fact higher octane will likely rob you of a little power as it doesn’t burn as quickly so to speak.

FJR runs fine on up to 10% Ethanol 87 octane though whenever I can I prefer Ethanol free real gas. My vintage Honda CB400F actually runs it's best on 87 octane but I really try to make sure to but Ethanol free as those carbs were a PITA to get cleaned out after 8 years of sitting and crappy fuel being run through them. My Buell absolutely must have 93 octane and even with that I often have to add octane booster to stop the detonantion. Of course head work, higher compression, and camshaft choice might have something to do with it. :bikewheelie:
