I took the longer mostly dirt way down to the lake today. Half because it’s more fun and half because the little 250 rally can’t keep up with highway traffic.

Awesome perspective! Love pics where a road or train tracks just head off into the distance!

Best part about smaller bikes is taking the longer way! Get to see places highway people will never see.

Not the way I had planned for my bike to spend the weekend and probably until at least next weekend.

    20220904_081703.jpg 20220904_081655.jpg

Went to go for a ride on Friday evening and as the bike was running at the bottom of the driveway I noticed my tail light was out. Checked blinkers and brake and they worked fine, just no running tail light. Turns out cheap Chinese parts also have crappy soldering on oversized resistors.

    20220904_081447.jpg

I could probably fix it but I figured it was a good excuse to order a new light with the flashy brake and sequential turn signals. So I wait until Friday for it to show up.

    Thanks for the advice gents.

Bikes apart again - looks like the rubber boot connecting the throttle housing assemble to the head is where the leak is. Gonna clean the rubber & orange arrow sections, try to seat correctly and tighten the clamp a little less this time.

The top of one of the valves (not sure if intake or exhaust) has buildup. I’m assuming/hoping this was caused by the bad seal. Not familiar with valve wear - will this build up significantly impact the valve movement? F942DC4C-ABCD-44CC-99AC-5C9566F24AB9.jpg

@spencermarkd has the vintage version so he gets a pass
    :dancingbacon:

Also been seriously debating buying a grom clone. Shop nearby has them for $1600 OTD. Figured it was a good way to get into the mini bike game without fully committing and ending up being one of those people that posts a 3 year old grom on CL with 300 miles on the clock.

From what I heard from my Honda dealer they're still pretty unobtanium in my region. When I bought my Navi he told me he had 40something people on his waiting list for one. I've heard nothing but good things about them though, aside from the lack of the hi/low gearbox.

Haven’t been on here much lately. Don’t know where else to share this where folks will appreciate it!

I scored a win today. Picked up a very rare bike a couple months back. 30 yr old bike, Only 19 ever came to this country and they don’t go on the market. So I scored. BUT, it was in the care of a shaved ape at some point and there are some issues to address
One quirky thing about Guzzi’s, the oil filter is inside the sump. Thesump has, count ‘em, 18 boltssecuring it, with a gasket between. It’s not unusual that a rookie breaks a bolt or strips the aluminum block. On a bike like this tho, you don’texpect to see that.
First time removing the sump andone bolt broke off with basically no effort. The others were way overtightened. There was also RTVeverywhere which a Guzzisti willnever do…so already I know thestory that came with the bike isn’taccurate.

anyway because these bolts face the ground on the bottom of the sump, they’re a @$*^# to fix when there’s a problem. So, my day….

Feeling pretty good about it rightabout now I have to say.

Yeah, there are a few people on here with the vintage versions.

Its crazy what used Groms are going for these days! You should get a Benelli TNT 135, I heard it’s easier to swap a 450 engine into!

It’s carbed. Boom Vader- looks like a second gen Grom and I believe there is some parts compatibility between the two in terms of cosmetics and exhaust.

Northern Tool. Although the left hand bit didn’t do great, the ez out itself did. I believe the heat, before even the first removal attempt, was the trick. That and having the damn hole centered. MAP gas. My buddy - airline jet mechanic - stressed that bit. Do all the work drive the ez in- STOP - apply high heat, and proceed. Came out like butter.

Used from cost as much as new from around here. And new groms are damn near impossible to come by. Ive been wanting a monkey to putt around on but I feel like the Chinese “grom” would be easy for me to cut up and rebuild to my liking.
