honestly, you are better off with your little one strapped to your body in the event of an accident

in the event of an accident, if your passenger was on the bars and in front of you riding the top tube they would fall and crash with the frame of the bike

if the little tike was strapped on with you, there would be a better chance for a safe outcome

its a simple size/mass thing, your body would protect the smaller body more being together in a tight quarter, than the little body absorbing the energy alone

Except for when little body gets crushed by big body when you rag doll. I don’t think I would ever go on a highway with a little one. Figure when they are old enough to ride by themselves they can ride their own bike on the highway with me.

It would be fun on any bike. I really want to take the Grom on it and have it pinned the whole time. If we camp @fatfurious2 can bring all the gear.

I've done it several times starting back in 2004. Most recent time was in 2018. It's definitely a fun road but with the increase in people being aware of it has come a decrease in the fun factor, at least for me. It's still worth a visit but with some caveats. I will not do it on a weekend ever again unless I get there at the absolute ass crack of dawn to avoid the crowds. Much better to do it on a weekday. Early morning is better in terms of vehicular traffic but wildlife at that time would be a possible concern.
Consider going to VA 16 the Back of the Dragon as an alternative. Longer stretch of road, not as popular or well known. The Snake, 421 in TN is another great ride that's longer and not as advertised. It can be a tricky one though so on the first time through don't ride over your head because it WILL bite you.

    fun little story

i was riding a fixed gear with my little cousin sitting on the top tube holding onto the bars many years ago

he kept kicking the side of the front wheel with the heel of his sneaker

after telling him repeatedly to not do that....

sure as shit he did it one more time hard enough his foot went through the spoke, before the fork, instantly launching us in what was prob the gnarliest bike accident I ever had

he broke his leg, I fucked my shoulder

How young is too young for a 50cc? May sound like a dumb question but I've been more into none motorized two wheel fun most of my life. My little bro just turned 4 y/o, but I have the opportunity to pick up a new TTR50 at a respectable discount.

Nice! Honestly my gut is leaning towards he is a year or so too young. Would kinda like him to get acquainted with hand braking on a bicycle before introducing the motor.
He's outgrown his balance bike so he's due for a new whip anyway. Coworker was trying to urge me to jump in on the TTR since they come two to a crate.

They now make training wheels. They didn't have those when I was learning  I know it doesn't help with braking/throttle control....but at least he won't have the bike fall on him.

@backcountryj do it and dont look back

you can put training wheels on a 50, and they have the throttle limiting screw that you can use as a nanny

Do it! The ttr50 might be too tall but if you want to get him into riding you will need the ttr50 eventually

Haha you guys sound like my coworker as he reminded me of both those 'safety' features. Def don't remember either being around when I was falling in the dirt as a grom.

The pw50 goes fast with the limiter screw installed and a 25lbs rider going down a slight hill. Almost couldn’t catch my runaway 2 year old.
