That’s gotta be a coastal or west coast thing, our weather reports are generally accurate here in the south, it’ll get iffy when it calls for cloudy all day but even then I would say it’s 80+% accurate.

    WOW. Rekluse y'all.

Just got off the phone with one of their engineering team members about my exploded clutch. He says it was likely moisture in the oil that delaminated the discs like that, which was my hunch given the tiny bits of rust underneath where the pads are. Also mentioned that that makes sense with how contaminated my oil was when I inspected it, commuting 2.5 miles in the winter is just asking for moisture condensing inside the cases when it isn't warm enough outside to go on long rides and boil it all out, y'know.

I mentioned that it was five years old, wasn't expecting anything from them and was more just curious why it failed and he said "oh, well, I'm happy to warranty it for you, if you want to stick with the auto or go to a manual setup, just let me know." So I have a new set of their torque drive discs heading my way :bananadance:

Guess I'll keep the EBC's I ordered as a backup set.

Still waiting on parts from Ma BMW that had to be sent to Germany, was 3-4 weeks a week ago, so I can drop the oil pan, pickup, and strainer and try to clean the rest of the flakes out.

Seriously floored they're warrantying a five year old clutch that wasn't a manufacturing defect.

First year I've been home for Daytona Bike Week in a few years. Ended up being sick for most of it. I had planned on going to the Daytona 200 and King of the Baggers races but had to settle for watching them on YouTube. One thing I wasn't prepared for was the fastest time of the race winning H-D Factory Road Glide was only 0.8 seconds slower around Daytona than the liter bikes... Of course, the KotB bikes are pretty much running superbike suspensions and tires, but they also weigh in at over 600lbs and have to use an unmodified factory frame.

That's my home town. Upstate New York is a great place to ride. Find some spiedies while you're there.

Watching those dudes stuff those bikes into the corkscrew at Laguna Seca is so much fun. That being said, IMO, it was extremely dangerous to have run those bikes on the high banks with tires designed for bikes several hundred pounds lighter.

I saw a video the other day of Kyle Wyman running his SE Road Glide at Laguna Seca. I think the only modification he has is Ohlins rear shocks, and maybe a big bore kit. He was only 29 seconds off of the pace of his race bike on street tires.

Interesting that the moisture could cause such an issue... its almost like hes seen / heard this before of their disks to call that out and hence the warranty.

I have never heard of clutch discs delamming in such a way due to moisture.

Either way! Heck yeah! glad they did you a solid.

I like it a lot very fun bike. Sportbike handling with a comfortable upright seating position. Feels light and effortless to rip around. Not too bad on the highway either. I wanted a supermoto before ever riding one and it lives up to the hype.

I haven’t ridden an R3 but would venture to guess you’d have more fun all around on the 701. I think it would be a blast on the track too I’m planning to go this year

Here's a link to read more about the event and maybe sign up if interested. http://www.glmc.org/grand_tour.php

There are already a couple of others on here who have singed up to give it a try. These Grand Tour events are always a good time. It runs for months so you have plenty of opportunity. There is a minimum number to achieve finisher status and get a t-shirt or for some events a really cool pin or patch. They're done at your own pace and you search out your own locations. Where I live I'm really in a good spot for this particular event. There are 3 decently sized cities each under an hour away and each of those 3 has a public art trail of 40 or more murals. I have 2 counties in PA and 2 more in MD that each have a barn quilt mural trail of 29-45 locations each. This is all on top of my already being aware of quite a few cool murals I've just stumble upon during rides. Most of my day is spent behind a keyboard at work so it's fairly easy for me to search out more mural locations in my downtime. I attend a couple of FJR1300 events each year and have mapped out murals near those meets and on the routes to and from those meets. For the first time doing these events I see a decent shot for me to go for a podium finish.

Here's a link to a similar event starting April 1 from a different organizer. https://www.teamstrange.com/2023/wowgt/index.htm

Oddly enough both groups this year are on the same path regarding themes. I'm actually signed up for both events as I can easily double dip on some locations.

Damn. I think I know of one mural and it's over an hour and a half away.
