I really really wish I had a T7 or AT to see how far I can push it in the shit I ride now that my dirt skills are where they are. @fatfurious2 I think if you get a smaller dual sport too it would totally increase your comfort and skill on the AT.

This dude I know who rides hard enduro and rode the hammer run (the same dual sport I did on my 350 and fucking beat the shit out of me on) on an 890 adventure. Proof that when you really learn technique you can ride almost anything on anything.

If that cheesesteak meet ever happens, and I bring the bike up, you can sit on it and see how it feels.

I agree with you that i need to bring my skills up though. I've been slowly getting back to normal things after napping on the couch wrong 2 months ago, and taking my back out. Its like hovering at 98% for a while now. But at least i can put the bike on the center stand by myself  I was also messing around with breaking the rear tire loose yesterday. But i need a solid few days in the woods to get more comfortable. Bad is that the woods (more than a gravel road) are about an hour ride from me. Good thing i have a bike that i can comfortably ride on the highway with to get there.

Also why im keeping my soft bags (although thinking about the mid summer sale at Mosko Moto for their Reckless 40L setup) over getting a hard case setup. I know i can sell my Kriega bags no problem. Its a 24L + a 5L bag.

Ouch. I think so far the furthest out single mural I've visited was roughly 125 miles from home. I do have a very target rich environment within reasonable riding range. I've actually bookmarked almost 600 more murals and that's without venturing into downtown Philadelphia where I understand there may be as many as 4000 murals within city limits.

The thing about the AT is there is so much more at stake if it goes down right? Much more risk of expensive damage, much more weight that throws you at risk of injury. With even something like a WR250 (if you didn't want to go the high performance route) you can learn SO MUCH taking it on a hitch carrier and ride some technical shit all day. Stuff like "breaking the rear loose" is child's play when it comes to progression on something you don't give a shit as much about you know? Once you start doing hill climbs, jumping over logs, riding through technical washouts and rocks you learn about body position, throttle and clutch control. Stuff that will transfer on the AT and help you push yourself out of your comfort zone without as much risk doing it.

Go to home depot and get yourself a sheet of tyvek. Much lighter and packs smaller than a walmart blue tarp.

Walked out of my house to get the mail, found my neighbor blocking my driveway. Turns out he was playing with bikes

The guys that ride big ass heavy bikes on much more than fire roads are beasts IMO. Been riding dirt for damn near 25 years and even my WR450 is heavy at times, and its half the weight of the average ADV bike.

But also +1, when the WR450 falls over its not much more than "is anything bent way out of shape" Nope, keep riding, those big adv bikes with all their weight will bend and break shit way easier and body work is $$$

Give me a dirtbike for the dirt.

That turbo hanging off that V-rod could make for a fun ride.

Or they're idiots in way over their heads  speaking from experience as an idiot that takes their adv on single track from time to time

Luckily though I've only bent my shift lever once, bent (then melted while trying to fix..) my barkbusters, and snapped a tiny post that the kickstand spring attached to that was a PITA to drill and tap to repair. I've gotten lucky on my drops and falls so far for sure.

This is how I felt when I started riding more aggressive stuff even with my 350ish lb DRZ400. Almost cost me my knee the one time in the heavy rocks at the one dirt bike park. Or the times where you get trapped under the bike and even though nothing hurts you gotta figure out how to get the bike off you while laying down/facing away from it with a leg pinned. Now I can flick the 350 off me even when laying down on a hill.

Idk man there is something exhilarating when you find some smooth flowy single track between a bunch of trees and elevation changes. It's like the rush of down hill mtb'ing but with a motor between your legs to get you back up the mountain too. Or nailing a hard ledge obstacle.
