All my rigs are purpose built. From crawling to camping. I also enjoy a nice stock truck for what that’s worth. Toyota’s are the jam!
How far are the trails from him? That would be my question. Also both the bikes he is thinking of will be better Offroad.

Close. Hes in Charlottesville VA. He told me he rides backroads only to get to trails. Then rides pretty hard offroad. He had the Dunlop d908rr rear tire on the AT

I have owned a 690r for awhile. It’s a stout bike, very easy to lug up trails. I ride that one the best out of the saddle.

Why not add ballast to the bike down low as long as the weight is sprung?

Do they not make a spring light enough for your weight?

I've been looking for levers for the Grom. Are ASV worth it? Spendy little shits.

ive had a few different asv levers throughout the years on different toys
you get what you pay for...
but the grom levers that tst industries offers are a nice option and a few bucks less than a asv setup
    https://tstindustries.com/womet-tech-evos-shorty-lever-kit-for-honda-grom-cbr300r-cbr500r-more.html
though to be fair, i dont think these bend all the way back like an asv would either

just dont buy any of the real cheap asv knock offs that are a dime a dozen on ebay and Amazon

I've always used CRG, Pazzo or ASV on my bikes in the past and they're all high quality.

As has already been mentioned, avoid the urge to buy cheap chinesium ebay/Amazon levers.
