I've told several people that these rides are about the most fun you can have being miserable. I've read somewhere that adventure is adversity tempered by time and I love that statement. You definitely had an adventure and my hat's off to you sir!

All my rigs are purpose built. From crawling to camping. I also enjoy a nice stock truck for what that’s worth. Toyota’s are the jam!

Not sure what was more exciting today. The giant to pile of bear scat I ran thru on the Kodiak in my yard
    Or
The fucking giant spider that jumped on my ass when I was moving the RMAX.
(Spiders don’t bother me, but something about being trapped in a bucket seat with one)…yeah no.

Have you tried light ear plugs (like ones for use for sleep at night) I found that riding with those blocks out all the loud but still gives me the situational awareness.

These are the ones i use

Thanks!! I want to get the pin and patch as well for my Aerostich!

I have pictures of the receipts next to the odometer, the map and filled out the IBA application. I just need to go to my parents' house tomorrow to use their scanner to scan all my receipts before I can submit this.

That's an awesome statement! I have always been more excited by long distance riding than just outright speed. I am already planning on the 1500 miles in 24 hour challenge. I kind of wanted to attempt that yesterday with how good I was feeling, but the Saddlesore 1000 and Bun Burner 1500 are required before doing the BB Gold.

Bun burner gold is supposed to be the toughest ride to complete. I'm east of the Mississippi so we have lower speed limits and a lot of high traffic areas that make it even tougher. I'd like to try for the silver myself with a 30 hour window to work with. I am planning a memorial ride for a friend and former coworker who passed last year at age 57. Wasn't to do a Saddlesore from our old employer to The Gay Bar in Gay Twp., MI. Roughly 1070 miles one way. Planned it last year for September but got bronchitis so had to reschedule. Looking at June to do it and stop at the hotel where the IBR is starting on way home.

Good luck in June! Looking forward to a ride report if/when you do it!

I had been preparing myself for a few weeks by cutting down on caffeine and waking up earlier and earlier every day leading up to the ride yesterday. The day before the trip (Monday) I ended up sleeping horribly and had some weird muscle spasms and ankle pain that forced me up at 1:30 AM, so I decided to force myself to stay awake without caffeine till I eventually went to sleep at 6:30PM for my 3AM alarm yesterday. I ended up getting a solid 8.5 hours of sleep and felt amazing. I also took some caffeine gummies throughout the morning so there was no point where I felt sleepy or even tired, so by the time I finished the 1000 miles I was still up to do more.

Unfortunately stopping in Vegas and getting ~5 hours of rough sleep (I don't sleep well in hotels) made the last 500 today way more brutal than yesterday's 1000. On top of that the temps dipped below 40 degrees outside of Vegas.

Being on the West coast I do have the luxury of 70-75 mph interstates I can just sit on with the throttle lock. The Versys did amazing at 85+ mph for hours on end. Any thoughts of me replacing it with a newer ADV have now gone out the window.

Bought this little vlx600 a while back as a “fix-it” project. Repaired & chopped the wiring harness, new carb, hardtail, rebuilt forks, exhaust, suicide clutch, jockey shifter, etc etc etc.. it’s so light and nimble that it’s fun as hell around town

Put my jacket on today and the shoulder pads felt weird. Guess it’s time to order some new pads!
