Yep. It's thicker than pics show. Gorgeous bike. Quicker than my CB, too, but that's not saying much. I'm stoked for him. Way better than the KLR for where he rides.

Enjoyed another long ish ride on the 149cc Grom. Bike runs well but I feel there is a little more. So I said F it and hooked up both the monkey ( soon to be 143cc) and grom with Aracer minix ecu’s along with two wide band O2 sensors for auto tune feature. Picked up a new hi flow oil pump for each bike which I think it needs with the 5row oil cooler and a cam chain cover/ crankcase vent adapter for each. Then picked up a new exhaust for the grom. The one that’s on there was like 75 bucks on Amazon? I picked up a leovince high mount dual in black. It also comes with the O2 sensor bung for auto tuning. I will have to weld one to the monkey’s TB exhaust.
These little bikes have pretty much won me over for the fun factor.
When I was out today I asked myself why? When I was a kid we had a 1969 Honda mini trail 50cc. We used to ride it on the road about 1/8th mile to get on the powerlines. I remember the rush you got riding it that short way because if my stepdad caught us or the cops we would be in trouble. We were supposed to walk the bike there. So ya I get that “ Iam not supposed to be riding this on the street “ feeling . The other day my brain was telling my feet to pedal which felt weird because I didn’t do it but it feels like a bicycle with an engine. The little bike handles well and with the power mods it’s starting to go pretty quick. I was out on the R3 last week and I had fun and all but these little bikes are just really that much fun.

We put in a bit more today. Just taking it easy, but put 10-15 miles of dirt roads in too. 60 or 70 miles total today, and it was nice to see some new places on the bike.

All my rigs are purpose built. From crawling to camping. I also enjoy a nice stock truck for what that’s worth. Toyota’s are the jam!
The 2017 is the year it received the new balanced motor. Makes a big difference on this machine.
    It’s worth holding out for.

This is what I bought for the grom. The windscreen worked so well on the monkey that I went looking. Should be here Tuesday so I will know if it makes a difference.

After a brief "oh shit! I lost my phone!" open pocket incident today I broke down and bought the tank bag I've been wanting. I was trying to hold out for a sale better than the 10% promo code that's always active, but I need the bag.

I looked at that one. Seems like it matches up pretty well to the headlight lines. Let me know how you like it.

The H2C one I put on blocks the wind about up to my belly button and I’m pretty sure makes no difference in top speed. Still thinking i’ll re-use the bracket but print my own baby rally screen.

Has anyone watched the "ride like a cop" FortNine video? Counterleaning has always come most natural to me, even beyond slow speed, but everyone seems to think you have to rude like you're in moto GP or you're doing it wrong. What about you guys? Lean in of counterlean?

I counterlean more often than I GP lean. After watching that video the other day, I also gave 4 finger clutching a try and it's been a weird experience. I've ALWAYS been a two fingers on both levers kind of guy and going to 4 just feels so wrong.

Edit: the CTXP video Ari and Zack did on police riding was good, too, if you're looking for more on it.

I've always done 4 finger clutching because I pull the clutch to the bar and didn't like the feeling of squishing my last two fingers between the lever and bar. That being said I usually end up counter leaning on pretty much every turn now, especially on twisty roads because visibility is so much more important than getting the last bit of lean angle out of the tires (and I'm not going fast enough and am not a good enough rider to do that anyways).

I've been wanting a Surly Big Dummy for years...

    upload_2023-8-6_12-58-30.jpg

I might list the Navi up for $3k as a "I don't really want to sell it but if someone wants to buy it I won't say no" kind of thing. I still see used stock ones for $2600-3k around here.

I'm not a fan of e-bikes, and the ebike version is $5300.

    Nope!
