All my rigs are purpose built. From crawling to camping. I also enjoy a nice stock truck for what that’s worth. Toyota’s are the jam!
I know nothing about these trucks. My buddy has a 3500 that is nice, but I myself don’t know shit about the motors.

Since the EPA started going after diesel trucks around the mid 2000's their efficiency went down, and complexity went up DRASTICLY. There's not a chance id buy a newer diesel truck unless it was for work and I could write it off completely. For pleasure/personal use a truck without all these components on them is WAY better.... (One of the reasons I love my antiquated 2nd gen tacoma)

You do have to keep in mind I live in a state with SMOG, so if you touch ANYTHING motor/tune/intake/emissions/exhaust (pre catalytic converter / particulate filter) related you fail and cant register. So I am quite biased to older diesel truck as they dont have to abide by those insane rules.

Dont get me wrong, modern Diesel trucks are B E A Utiful and so luxury (as is their $$$$$$). But it isnt for me.

Also... something about working in IT and wanting an EMP blast surviving fully mechanical diesel truck from the early 90s just gives me the fizz. I love technology as it bring in the money... but hate technology in my personal life cus i know how sideways and south it can go literally crippling any and all operations to those ill prepared.

Yup. DEF and EGRs killed the million mile diesels, and not just in pickups. Earned a living with my CDL for several years, and guess which trucks were constantly in the shop and guess what systems were always the problem. It's all the same agenda that pushed corn into gas tanks, and studies have shown it's worse for the environment than regular gas. I imagine the same data will come out regarding DEF in the future. Whether or not it'll be reported is a different story.

I'm just glad there are no smog inspections on motorcycles here in CA (surprisingly)... Cus yeah....

I went to CA once. I went to LA and San Diego for an animators conference called Siggraph.
That place was crazy! Felt like I was in Disney world or something. I was amazed at how empty the city streets were on a mid day Friday.
Felt like I was on the set of an apocalyptic movie.

Even still, it can be hard to get motorcycle exhausts here in California. But lack of smog is one of the reasons I do enjoy motorcycling. I feel so restricted by anything I want to do to my cars here.

I'm not even talking about running a test pipe and going catless, but I can't get an aftermarket intake that doesn't cost tons of money, or a tune, or even ebay catalytic converters that don't cost thousands of dollars for not being CARB certified. It's a bunch of BS here.

Fun ride today! My wife and some friends went to the beach so they drove and I decided to ride the long way to get there. Turned out it was raining in the twisty roads but it was still a ton of fun.

    upload_2023-9-30_20-49-59.png

Last post about the Versys exhaust (I promise!) but I really loved it today. It feels so much smoother and nicer to be riding long distance. The bike in general is so nice and I'm still loving it after almost 1.5 years of owning it, which is saying something because my average bike ownership has been like <6 months. :p

Really, the only time I don't love my bike is when I'm trying to keep up with friends on their sport bikes and asking it to do things it doesn't want to do. That's not its fault, though, and I really want a sport bike now to ride with friends and in the mountains. I really love the ZX4RR and am considering looking around at dealerships to see if I can at least see one in person.

No fog in my visor because I have a Pinlock. The RF1400 also flows a lot of air.

I like it, I think it gives the bike character. I don’t know how much it offers in function but I like it.

Went for a real nice ride with some old friends today. I've known these guys since we where teenagers, we all worked in a moped shop in the late 70s. They are brothers, twins but not identical. We had perfect weather, mid 70s, and one rain shower that didn't even show up on radar, go figure, just enough to trash the bike, lol. But we did 268 miles and had a great time.
Lunch stop. Bikes are a Royal Enfield Himalayan, Honda vtx 1800, and my Bonneville T120
    20231001_135247.jpg
    The twins.

and a stop in port Austin mi. About halfway on the ride.

    My Bonneville .
20231001_142349.jpg 20231001_142411.jpg being that it's October I thought my buddies headlight decore was cool.

I had a really great day riding with some old friends. I'm 63 now so we have known each other for over 40 years. Bikes bring people together.
