Dang it, now I’m looking at a SantaSore ride. Although, I don’t think I can do it without heated grips at this time of year.

Gotta grin and bear it sometimes. I went and grabbed a drink last night, and played a few rounds of pool with a friend. helped immensely.

I'm buying a 50 pack for myself, and another 50 pack for the kiddos

glad I shared, sometimes it helps to know others are going through it as well. Feelin better today, even if I did have 2 near incidents on the way to work.

I think I found it? or a similar listing.

Similar but we managed to get motorcycles. Those will work though in a pinch.

Yeah Chuck is my motivation to try this, and having a friend that's so experienced with IBR rides I can't turn down the opportunity. I keep saying "try" because I know it's not going to be easy and not even sure if I'll be able to finish in the allotted time. But either way it's going to be an adventure!

You’re in good hands! And just remember, as long as you’ve got your credit card, you’ve got a place to stay for the night if you can’t do it. No shame in calling it quits instead of pushing yourself into a dangerous state of riding.

I’m trying to wrap my head around the 1500 mile ride in 24 hours. @BkerChuck have you done one yet?

I figured that'd get a laugh. Glad your spirits are up for a bit. Just gotta ride the waves sometimes.

Hope you don't have anything but near incidents vs actual ones.

nothing crazy urgent but if you guys do happen to find the listing, i'd be interested

absolutely, sometimes you gotta soldier through it.

Yeah nothing crazy today. One guy who didn't see me lane splitting traffic and almost merged into me, but caught himself and i was already moving out of the way. 2nd guy was in my work parking lot....turning across my lane looking at his phone. That one upset me more but nothing happened so whatever.

I saw a car weaving all over the highway today and I looked over as I was passing and it was an old lady with her phone on the wheel. She wasn’t even looking up.

Yeah it’s not worth trying to get them to stop. They won’t change their behavior and it’s just unnecessary risk.

Yeah i've found any efforts to highlight peoples lack of awareness just ends in indifference at best, annoyance at worst.

No, like you I have now completed a Bun Burner 1500/36 hours. I understand that Bun Burner Gold is considered the toughest ride to complete as you have so little extra time. Average moving speed for that one is 62.5 mph and that's using a full 24 hours not counting fuel stops. With me living in PA I'd almost have to head west to take advantage of higher posted speed limits to pull it off. I think a Bun Burner Silver of 1500/30 hours might be interesting while staying reasonably close to home.

You're absolutely correct also in that there is no shame in bailing out if the ride is too much for you. Better to walk away to ride another day than to push yourself beyond your own limits and risk your life ever. I've already talked to @FreshOldTaco just last month about the planning on our ride and when we want to do it. I'm leaning towards late May to mid-June as our best window of opportunity. Longest daylight hours, moderate temps. Figuring on leaving out in the early morning hours before sunrise and heading east towards Philly, a required stop on the Ride Around PA so we get through that area before work traffic starts. Look on the IBA website and you'll see the list of required stops for receipts. The section across the northern part of PA is a nice ride but you do have a significant amount of wildlife there so I want to hit that during daylight hours. The final stretch then to the finish, likely in the dark, would mostly be turnpike so we'd have the advantage of traveling with traffic running interference for us. I have faith he can do this. Just realize it's actually 5-6 rides of tank to tank.

    Will do.

Heck, I almost got sideswiped last night on a 2-lane by some asshole driving in the middle of the road.

    yeesh. glad you're safe

I'm currently doing traffic school right now since I paid my speeding ticket on Monday. Man this is a joke lol.

6 quick courses, 3 questions at the end of each one. Now I have to wait 30 minutes to take the final. I remember when it used to be 8 hours lol.

I’ve been thinking of trying to do Bay Area to Seattle and back in a day. It’s over 1600 miles but is something I’ve always wanted to try. At that point, since it's actually a race against the clock and I’d be riding for 24 hours, it doesn’t matter what time I leave, so I could leave at 6-7AM to be better rested and just ride till the next morning, vs waking up earlier to do the ride in 16 hours like I did for the SaddleSore rides.

The last SaddleSore in-state ride did take me 20 hours, though. I left at 4AM and didn’t finish till midnight. That was such a tough ride that I think it showed me I have the stamina to at least do 20 hours, so if I can get lucky with traffic and road conditions I think I could grind out another 4 hours for the Bun Burner Gold ride. Like you, this would wait till at least next May.

My very first Saddlesore was done while doing a 24 hour rally. It was set up by a former IBR finisher so that you could do a rally with 24 hours of available clock time and IF you hit over 1000 miles you could claim a Saddlesore ride. I forget where I finished rally wise but I covered slightly over 1,100 miles AND took a near 2 hour rest break as my final bonus was a daylight only and I was there early so I got to claim a rest bonus as well. I think I hit the 1k mark at about 18 hours? I remember I was in Ocean City, MD around 2:30 am sitting at a traffic light right near a nightclub that was closing after last call and watching a bunch of rather scantily clad young women stumble across the intersection in front of me. Don't ever tell me you don't see anything on an Iron Butt ride!

Welp. that was easy. Took less than an hour and I passed with 88% on my first attempt without reading a lick of the coursework lol.

This is how you know it's just to make money, and not really to help people become better drivers.
