Took the XT225 across town and hopped on the freeway and was impressed.

She has no problem cruising at 70mph (indicated - I need to gps to see how accurate it is) with more throttle to turn it could do 80+ but I didn't want to push it past that. This was in no tuck and not drafting anyone.... speeds the modded Grom would dream of. I might put the +1 (16t) front sprocket on for kicks n giggles to see how it rides, doubt I'll gain top speed but less rpms at cruising is always good.

She is a little squirmy with the road grooves and that might be due to the tires but I also feel like the front stem bearings have a notch causing a pinballing effect. I'll have a look see at the stem bearings as they are guaranteed to need to be greased as they probably never have (bike is an 06).

Speaking of greasing.... +1 to old school, every single pivot point of the linked rear suspension has a zerk fitting so you can grease with a grease gun in about 2min.

Edit - also just paid registration on the thing today... So she's staying. Grom be shaking in its lil 12in tires.

I'm actually a puppy who knows a bunch of the big dogs. I know at least 2 that have ridden over 100k miles in a single year and one of those gentlemen has done it twice in back to back years! I know quite a few IBR finishers including the only 3 time winner Jim Owen. I've been very fortunate to meet and sometimes compete with these folks.

If I had passive income I'd love to try and do that. I'd just chase the good weather and crank miles on a bike.

Nah. I don't want to do it for clout. I have dreamed for years of just hopping in the truck and going without coming back. Trouble is, you gotta have funds to do that, so I sit here in my bunker at work and earn funds to do stuff on my days off instead.

Speaking of miles, I’ve put more miles on the S10 in 1.5 weeks than I have in the KTM since buying it

I'm stoked for you. I was worried the weight would be a turn off for you. Especially since my love for it is purely theoretical, and I worry about the weight myself. @nd4spdbh puts the majority of that to rest for me, and seeing you take to it makes me feel better about pursuing it. See I recommended it purely for selfish reasons.

Honestly the weight disappears once you’re rolling. I’ve gotten better at going slower and slower on it without having to put my feet down, and I don’t notice the weight while lane splitting either. The extra weight is also welcome when you realize how planted and stable it feels regardless of pavement quality or wind.

Can’t wait for you to get on one too!

Im sorry....... WHAT. I wouldnt even do those kinda miles a day for a single day in a 4 wheeled vehicle!

Hehe oh yess..... I love this.... next thing you know you will be hopping on the s10 over the grom, ask me how i know.

Its kinda mind blowing how the "weight" full on disappears above like 3-5mph huh. Ill be honest I aggressively ride the Tenere WAY more than I ever did the 919, the size, the presence, paired with the ability to maneuver is kinda amazing. The leverage you have with the wide bars with the comfort of the seating position lends to shenanigans.

I haven’t touched the Grom since I blew up the Versys. :(

I installed the Aliexpress side deflectors, very interested to see how they work.

Everything about the ST in every review is encouraging. It's great proof that stats on paper mean very little, because on paper it should be a sluggish land barge like a huge cruiser. Yet every review has people shocked at the light feel once moving, the full crank turn radius is good for a bike half it's weight, the torque/power is applauded by everybody but the most snobbish sport bike riders, and everyone who takes it on twisty roads is shocked how easily it does it. "Strangely effortless to ride aggressively" per RF9.

His voice is irritating, but Chase on 2 wheels did a first ride on it, and it seemed like it was purely because it's not a sport bike that he said he wouldn't buy one. He wants all the light weight and power of a sport bike with the adv capability, which is about as realistic as a unicorn. The suspension, armor, and ground clearance for offroad won't come in a lightweight package with all the bells and whistles. Even the KTM 890 Adventure R (stellar bike from what I hear) is 477 lbs and has a little less power than the ST. Power to weight will obviously be better, and it is a little cheaper up front. I can't speak beyond hearsay but I think Yamaha will be cheaper on maintenance than KTM, and the shaft drive is a solid part of the weight different.

All said and done, I'd pay the extra dollars for the reputation of reliability, comfort, and shaft drive. I am 100% biased though.

I really wonder why the super tenere flopped as hard as it did. Yamaha I guess didn't push the marketing on it as it should because while like you stated in paper it doesn't "keep up" it's very different in actuality.

I literally used to ride a bike 1/3rd the weight regularly around town..... Then found myself not riding the small bike because the super tenere was easier.... Like wtf
