I made a Super Tenere video. I'm not very happy with it, but I guess that's what I get for trying to talk first thing in the morning on the way to a doctor's appointment.

Not a bad price and that bike should have plenty of life left in it. I can see aftermarket windscreen, auxiliary lights on the front fender, highway pegs, FZ-1 replacement mirrors, Shad or Givi trunk with mount. Those early units were actually quicker than the newer bikes and a few pounds lighter. Only drawbacks would be if it's a non-ABS bike and some parts then were only made for 2004-2005 but those aren't really consumable items rather stuff like the wheels and of course body panels.

 

I bet if I ponied up some big money and went with a hex ezCAN or similar system you could use them as turn signals. Doing it analog with relays would be a nightmare. You'd have to have a timed latching relay so it didn't go back to bright in between flashes and ugh. My mind hurts thinking about it.

I was thinking it could just alternate between the bright and backlight while flashing, though maybe that could be too confusing? If you did it that way, I think a relay that powered off the main light and powered on the back light when the bulb flashed would work.

 

Was out looking for an old lift kit I use to have at my grandparents place (turns out I still had it!) but took a look at my dads old 1993 dr350 and man it’s sad!

 

You could do it pretty simple but it would be either blinker only or always on, having an always on other than when turn signals used would like you said be quite a nightmare.... though a combination of some SPDT and SPST relays for either side might be able to do it, but then things get bulky haha.

That looks like a great winter revival project!

Classic "ran when parked"

 

Having lived the ‘ran when parked’ dream I learned my lesson and just assume reality is ‘needs full rebuild’, tires, brakes, everything and adjust offer accordingly.

Generally my motorcycle buys/flips have worked out. There are a couple that the seller flat lied and I overpaid due to not doing my full due diligence.

Good news! I went to the dealer and they had the Yamalube rear end fluid for only $12.50. I paid double that on Amazon so I canceled that order.

However, the dealer did get me for $18 for the oil filter... I'm going to have to find them online or elsewhere for cheaper. I'm too used to SuperTech $3 filters.

 

Took the 701 for a “ride” this morning, dropped it off at Solid Performance KTM. Have a warranty claim opened now for the counter shaft seal, it’s been replaced twice and still leaking

Riding while on the clock is like THE best. We have a few locations at my work somewhat local but ill try to ride the moto on those days for just that reason.

HiFlo Filtro HF204 is what I use and is around 6-8$, there are many filters that the super tenere crowd uses as its a very standard size filter (same filter used on my honda 919 and many other bikes as well as tons of cars)

They STILL havent fixed this issue... my buddy had on 07 690SMC that he had to replace it a few times.

 

holy crap that's used on a lot of things. I love HiFlo's applications section on their category. I think that's the most I've ever seen for a filter.

Thats where I learned that the Grom's oil filter is a transmission filter in a lot of Honda models haha

Ya it’s rough! I told him he can buy parts and I’ll fix it for him but I’m not paying for any of it since it will need a carb work fork work and prob engine work at this point since it’s sat for so long

 

Man, that looks like a fun project.

 

Do the new groms actually have a filter cus all I have is a spinner on mine haha. But yeah, been using HiFlo's stuff (air and oil filters) in all of my motos for like 2 decades. Quality product at a reasonable price.

It's funny, cus yeah you get holidays paid or vacation days where riding occurs, but something about being on the clock actually working working WHILE riding is like almost taboo haha.

Naw. Some ATF / fogging oil down the spark plug hole (and some compressed air to stir things around on top of the piston) to let sit for a couple of days to coat the cylinder and free rings (if stuck), then turned over a few times. Oil drained and fresh oil put in she'll be fine!

After "reviving" my xt225 has really made me appreciate a simple air cooled carbureted motorcycle.

It's so simple, and at this point with the jetting I have landed on its ALMOST fuel injected hop on cold and just ride. 1 min max of idling on the enrichment knob then off I go.

My one hickup now is........

Forgetting to turn the gas on

 

Taking advantage of a several day gap in the rain, a regular rider/commuter I see decided to practice power wheelies on his lunch break up and down the street my office is on.

Reminded me how much I miss my bikes.
