I love HiFlo Filtro stuff (use it on the Grom and the RC390) but the HF204 was $11.50 on Amazon and I saw the OEM Yamaha ones were like $14 online so I figured I'd pay the extra few $ and get OEM. I didn't think it would be $18 though!

Anyways, Revzilla has them for $13.50.

I got all the fluids needed for the bike this weekend too, as well as the Harbor Freight copper washer set:



I just need to figure out the ABS bleeding procedure without the jumper that Yamaha uses. Also, the bike is at exactly 1k miles since when I bought it:

 

I know you got stock of t6 but might wanna reconsider use of it in the tenere.

I swapped fresh t6 out in the first 200mi of use in the tenere (and that's with tens of thousands of miles and thousands of hours of use in many other street n dirt bikes).

Conventional T4 15w40 is the way to go.

 

I know you had mentioned the shear strength wasn't enough for the Tenere but I see a ton of forum posts saying it's fine? Either way I'd like to just give it a shot since I do have it (and was meant for the Versys so might as well get use out of it!).

 

No one likes hearing their own voice, don’t sweat it at all. GREAT REVIEW! Made me want one (still need to get back on a T7, was a little disappointed compared to my too high expectations last time).

I was at Sturgis one year, well, just passing through when it was going on, and saw a lone guy on a Super Tenere surrounded by leather pirates and said it’s nice to see at least one real bike here and he laughed pretty hard haha good memories

 

All you really need to do is exercise the ABS unit so it moves fluid. Any decent unpaved roads nearby? A few stops braking hard enough to make the ABS kick in will move the shuttle valves in the ABS block and move some fluid through it. It's almost the same set up as the FJR. You just don't want that fluid sitting in the unit never moving. That's when those shuttle valves freeze up and the ABS block goes bad.

 

Me trying hard braking on gravel roads will probably end up with me on my ass and the S10 in pieces.

 

That could be a problem.

 

I feel like I've already felt the ABS working pretty actively since I feel it under my foot while braking quite often, since while I'm usually lane splitting over the little lane markers and the wheel like to jump around.

 

The rear is pretty active. You can feel it under foot on the rear lever when activating AFTER getting into the brakes on the front due to how the tenere does a unified braking system.

Still not the same as a full cycling via the jumper or going ham fisted on loose traction surfaces

The updated T7 with the TFT looks really nice, I had actually put a pre-order deposit on a T7 when it was announced last year but decided it was too off-road oriented for me and didn't have cruise control.

I'm 33! I'm not the youngest one here at least.

 

You sound way younger than that to me. I was thinking 25-27 range. Must be that permanent summer Cali air keeping your vocal cords sounding youthful. LOL

My thoughts on the bike to a T its so surprising vs what paper tells you it SHOULD be. Seeing the yellow in video with dynamic lighting..... ok... it does in fact look good!

Got some today and set out to start on poppin em on the tenere and very dark xt225. Used 1 of 2 sheets that come with the "regular" pack for both bikes and 1 top box. Highly recommended for a little extra night time visibility but not much in the way of distraction with black on black during the day.

22+ got a tiny, tiny, tiny filter, yeah. Light for scale.

 

Oh yeah... its cool, just casually reference size the 5$ filter next to the fancy $$$ light im lusting over.....

That filter is literally identical outside of length from the HF140 thats used in my WR450. Glad to hear they put an actual filter in the newer groms, pulling a side case to clean an oil pump pickup screen and partial disassembly of an oil spinner is kinda a pain (but not really)

EDIT - I also see hexagonal reflective stickers, how did you go about keeping the pattern?

 

Vinyl transfer tape. Put it on top of the sheet, press down on whatever hexes I wanted to lift off, apply to helmet, peel off transfer tape leaving behind the original pattern/spacing
