You know, if you bought a Super Tenere you could just ride to those places.


I wouldn't be opposed to going somewhere and renting a bike if it's reasonably priced. Think is, most of what I see it's going to cost a car payment or more to ride for a day or two. I just can't stomach that.

 

nah im good im to short tbh.. (plus id only buy a t7 i have zero interest in the st) my buddy has a t7 and he is an inch taller then me and on offroad trails i watch him struggle on a t7.. so id rather stick with a dirtbike.

plus im kinda done taking one vehicle to a place and hoping it doesnt break down or something lol if im going that far im trailering a bike parking the truck then going out and exploring! because if it breaks i can throw it on a trailer and still get home.

 

That all makes sense. I am just selling the kool aid. LOL

For the record, I'm short too, and the T7 is WAY taller than the ST. If I were going to really go for dirt stuff I'd probably look at the Honda CRF300s or something. That, or I'd get another RS1. That thing was a blast and I didn't have to lube a chain.

 

The problem with bike rental is the risk involved to the owner. That's a huge part of why bike rental is so much pricier than car rental. It's also a lot tougher finding any real options of bikes to rent. If you want to put some miles on a Harley that's pretty easy to find those for rent. A Super Tenere? Not sure I've ever seen those available to rent. What places you might find a bike rental are more likely to be in heavy tourist areas where there's not much good riding to begin with.

ya it is a lot taller buuut it is basically a big dirtbike lol loads of fun! just heavy! i wouldnt do a crf300 tbh they are good bikes but heavy id get a used ktm and rip it around lol or just find another slow drz for cheap lol. no clue what a rs1 is tbh lol

i will admit im not the best at keeping my chain lubed i do forget about it some lol but so far no issues with it!

 

Heavy is relative. My first bike was a 1300 cruiser, near 700 lbs. My cb500x is 430-440, and not too heavy to me. A CRF300L Rally is a hundred pounds less than that. It'd feel positively feather weight to me. Lol

 

offroad its really nice to have a light bike since you will be man handling the thing all day! im not in great shape but not in the worst shape (always could be better lol) and after riding in Co i was worn out for a week or so after and my bike is 315 dry. its a good amount of weight to be shifting all over the place

 

Truth. That's why my fat ass stays on road.

Yeah, Marysville and Arlington are about my limit, but have a few coworkers that are coming from MV. Several ride all summer so thatd be a plus I guess.

Ive thought about east side, and have family in Yakima, but at that poibt I think Id rather just move back to Utah. Same terrain and climate(ish) but comes with some of the (CoC unmentionable) perks of not living in WA

 

For you guys that have your tires changed, what are you paying? I took my bike in the other day to have 2 tires mounted and the chain thrown on. The shop charged me $255. I never imagined it'd be that much, so I never asked before leaving the bike(that's on me). I still wasn't cleared from any heavy lifting from the cataract surgery.....so it is what it is at this point. I was just a bit shocked it was so expensive. It's been years since I had tires swapped......so I remember paying around $60 for a set. If that's par for the course, I'll be better of buying a tire changer and balancing stand, then doing it myself.

 

when i had the sm tires installed it was 60 a tire with it off the bike with the wheels on the bike it was 100 a tire

 

I've heard as high as $100 per wheel/tire if carried in already off the bike. I bought a Nomar tire changer during Covid and even figuring at $50 a tire I've long since payed it off just on my own tires. I've also done a few for neighbors and friends. I don't generally charge anyone but if they throw me a few bucks I put it towards wheel weights, mounting lube, disposable gloves, and shop supplies so it's not all out of my pocket.

HOLY CRAP. 333,333 miles+ on the bike! I am a dang good dirt rider but not a chance id be taking the tenere out in some of that stuff, let alone 2 up. That guy is next level man.

 

Then that's not too far off I suppose. That's an insane price to me. I'll just buy these for $140 and be done.

 

At least I know I didn't get ripped off more than the next guy. I'll buy my own stuff and do it from here on out. I should have waited until I was cleared from the eye doc....but I got impatient Lesson learned.

 

It has been a LONG time since I have paid someone to mount my tires. Never taken a bike in whole to have them swap as im just too cheap (and have had the means / space to at least pull rims with old tires off). $225 seems somewhat steep but you figure 1.5hrs of shop time and it sounds about right.

Local shop down the street does tires off the bike for like 35 or 40 bucks, probably closer to 100 per if they are on the bike. A shop about 15 mi away doesnt charge anything if the tire is off the bike IF you buy the tire from them (which their prices have about 10$ extra built in for that and they go it will be an hour.... so its not like you are going to leave and come back so you stick around and look at things).

Ever since I got a static balancer from HF for like 35$, that paired with a home depot bucket and some tire irons I just do my own tires. Bead breaker is a foot long 2x4 cut at a 45 and another 4ft piece used as a lever under the slider of the truck with the tire on a piece of plywood haha. Something rather therapeutic and re-assuring when doing your own tires, I can take the time to inspect the inside of the rim, clean as needed, take extra care when balancing etc.

Also did I mention I'm cheap?


EDIT: NOTHING therapeutic about Grom sized tires.... those little rims with the same size bead height as full size tires can go fuck right off haha.

I will say, I'm not unhappy. I love the new tires and I wasn't cleared to lift more than 30lbs at the time......it is what it is. The bike has new tires/chain and I did an oil change....all is well in my world

 

Last time I had it done, the shop explained that they price the tires they sell so that it's the same cost as if you buy online and pay them to install. The difference is that if you buy from them, you don't pay for them to mount and balance.

 

for dirt tires ya its a lot but for street tires its nice to not fight with the damn things lol
