    Question:
Rebuilding a '79 XS750. Only has 6k miles on it, but given the fact that it's an oldie, I'm considering changing the wheel bearings. Bad idea? Not leaking and no grinding. Haven't tried the old "wiggle and look for play" yet, but I'm just trying to be preemptive. I figured its a small cost for peace of mind or should I not fuck with it if it ain't broke?

I would. A friend of mine was going on a cross country trip on his XS650, and his wheel bearing went bad. Caused him to leave the bike, and continue by car

Thanks. I'm a little anal about preventative maintenance especially being on two wheels, but sometimes second guess myself and wonder if I'm doing too much. Just needed a second opinion.

i think it's better to be safe than sorry when you're only on two wheels. last thing you want is something unexpected to happen at speed. friend of mine was rebuilding his bike, his dad took it for a quick spin down the street with no helmet on. brakes locked up and threw his dad up, messed up his face pretty bad

Yeah, that's true. I got lucky the last time I took a spill on a bike. Open face helmet and got sideswiped by a kid in an Accord on the FWY. Luckily my ground fighting training kicked in and I instinctively tucked my chin. After I regained my composure and got the helmet off, I noticed it was fucked right along the forehead. That would've been my face all over the road. No more open face for me. Gotta protect the money maker.

Would replace. Grease breaks down just like any other lubricant.

Getting started soon. Ordered carb rebuilt kits and debating new R6 calipers/rotors or going full R1 fork swap. Going to check the salvage spots near me this weekend to see what they have.

check craigslist for that stuff too. When I had my Nighthawk, I put GSXR1000 forks/front end on..(got it them for $500) too bad I never finished the project. I hate carbs/too impatient to rebuild them.

New dust light is just about done, just had to reorder the harness to work with the switch I'm using. 1030 lumens of pulsing amber to keep my rear end in one piece

This might be a long shot, however I am looking for a 2007+ CBR600RR front rim, no dents or bends. I am not worried about the paint. I have checked locally and they either want outstanding prices or don't have what I need. I am in western PA. If anyone has any leads I would appreciate it.
The bike is going to be a track day whore mostly and I am trying to save myself from spending the extra coin on after market as I know the extra weight savings won't necessarily be helpful at my personal amateur level. Thanks in advance!bike truck.jpg

No need to apologize, @DoubleRGirl . I've mentioned it to you before and was just putting out a broad message. I think it's getting to the point I'm just going to have to bite the bullet and get Marchesini or Carrozzeria if I can find the right deal.

Yeah, if money was no object and I knew they wouldn't get ruined from the riding that I do.

I will get them if y'all take up a donation and can raise the coin!

I've heard the carbon cracks if you aren't super careful putting tires on. I'd hate to have that happen.
I use that logic all the time
