Motorcycles BS Thread 2.0

I shouldn't have waited so long but hoping it's ready by then, should hear back today on when my production date will be.

And Friday 5/24 sounds good to me. I like the idea of a long weekend, was planning to take off work regardless so I'd have some time to relax afterwards.

 

On both of my seat builds, Seth called me about 24 hours before doing my seat to revisit everything. Once that phone call took place I think I had my seat within a couple of days. I do know he recommends putting in some break in miles to get used to it. I was actually so used to the way my first seat was built that I initially didn't like the second version and it took me some time to adjust to it. Now, I don't think I could ever go back to that old seat.

I'm thinking that would be a good time to do it. We'd be heading out before daybreak and getting through the Philly area first then heading north. Shouldn't be bad traffic across the northern part of the state heading west. Get home and have plenty of time to recover. We'll get together beforehand and go over things. I'll also get us paper maps, I know, old school! They can be useful to better visualize than the GPS screen.

 

has anyone ever rebuilt a rear master? i think mine is leaking and is my problem for no rear brake. so looking at getting a rebuild kit instead a full on master since a oem one is 200....

 

yeah lately i've been taking a ride every chance I get on weekends when it's nice and sunny. Need to balance it out as I haven't really been doing anything else recently lol.

Absolutely poured on us yesterday morning heavy, lots of the roads are pretty damaged, and saw a couple large accidents on my way in this morning. Nice and sunny right now, hoping that holds through the weekend at least. Supposed to rain all next week though

In other news, the R3 is almost done! Dropped off the bulk of remaining parts at the shop yesterday, forks are the last piece and arriving today.

 

local dealer has a rebuild kit for the master so gonna get this done today since its like 60 out this weekend i want to ride! might get some oil and do a change while im at it also

Just released this morning. Wendy Crockett is the only female winner of the Iron Butt Rally and an FJR1300 rider. For those of you on here that might think I'm nuts......

 

Rear master should be very similar to just about any other master (front or clutch). I just did the clutch master on the super tenere and it was pretty easy especially after watching a YouTube video or two.

Take it slow, take pics of the orientation of things and seals direction, pay attention when reassembling to make sure seals and bore are lubed with fresh brake fluid well and insert slowly so seals aren't messed up.

On the clutch master I did to get the internal snap ring seated (make sure to have that oriented the right way with the sharp side facing out), it's kind of a pain to push against the piston return spring etc while using snap ring pliers to seat the snap ring. I noticed the bore of the master had a taper before the snap ring grove to neck down. An appropriately sized socket that was just smaller than the bore was used to push the snap ring down (the taper compressed it) and hold the Piston in against the return spring. One little tap of a hammer on the socket pushed everything together super easy.

Your master might be slightly different.

Either way it's not a hard job just take it slow and have a good attention to detail.

 

Good to know, I'm sure the seat will feel very different hoping it won't take too long to get used to. Just got his email I'm scheduled for 4/16...that should give me a few weeks to put some miles on it.

Agreed getting through Philly early would be good to avoid that traffic. Let's make a plan to meet soon, the all-knowing groundhog says spring is coming early so should be some nice mild weekends to go for a ride

 

ive never done it before lol but id rather pay for the rebuild then a new one. ill watch a video or two in the garage and see if i cant get it done. thanks for the tips!

About 2 .oaths before the weather really breaks here in Michigan. It has warmed up some and will continue next week. Just a tease to make us wish for an early spring.

 

I know where you're going with that, but don't you take away what I want......... dammit.

 

Lil moto work on a vacation day. Rode the xt225 to lunch and went to lock the steering and remembered Its always been stickier and tougher than I like to get it into that position.

So pulled the whole ignition cylinder off of the bike and pulled the whole thing apart. Definitely a bit of gummed up old grease and grime down at the bottom section that deals with the stem lock but the electrical contacts and the rest of the lock were in great condition! Did a decent cleaning and regreasing of everything and it's much easier to operate now.

Speaking of xt225: carb jetting is about at perfection at this point pulls all the way through with no flat spots no sputters great throttle response at all throttle openings and quick warmup. Needless to say I haven't been tempted to change anything jetting wise in awhile (which is quite amazing for a person like me who can't leave well enough alone).

 

Finally got to ride to work for the first time today!

 

Heck yeah! Smaller dual sports ftw! Such a great jack of all trades platform.

Looks like a great sunny day. It's crazy how simply riding to and from work makes for so much better of a work day huh?

 

Man it was an absolute perfect day. Sun shining at about 68 degrees. Getting to follow it up with joining wifey at the MSF beginners course this weekend is the cherry on top.
