just found out another riding buddy died in the canyons yesterday. Met him a few months ago randomly at a gas station on my usual weekend route and we rode the rest of that day together, as well as a couple times after. Genuinely nice guy who was all smiles, and a good rider. Not a squid and always wore gear.

    Please ride safe friends.

I don't know anything about their 2 strokes and their reliability. But the 4 strokes seem to be holding up well.

So I've heard good things about both and decided to go look at it. I got a lot of info on them and why this one has sat. The market is there for the kids bikes but for the adults not so much since most of the adults born in the 70s-80s dislike them heavily so it was in a box in 10/22 until it was assembled on 11/22. They stopped buying the large bikes since they lose money on them. But all the small bikes and ATVs below 150cc sell like crazy for the price point. So I then asked about parts availability and reliability. I was told minus the stickers they haven't had any issues with the bikes they have sold. They run good and strong and share parts from Honda on the 4 stroke meanwhile the 2 stroke has a lot of KTM bits on them.

I asked on price since I am more interested in a 2 stroke trail bike. And this one is 4400 out the door I got finance stuff sorted as well for if I decide to do it. I did ask for some of the fees off since the bike has sat with no interest and I can legit see the dust on it. They said they would have to talk to someone about it before they could say anything so I told em cool I'll be back.

It's a good lookin bike. And about half the cost of a more accepted name brand. Who builds the 2 stroke motors?

Probably the same factory that builds KTM's motors lol. That is a decent looking bike for sure.

@TacoTyusday Any details on what happened? Not to pry but maybe a learning experience / something to look out for for the rest of us.... as its not often an experienced rider whos the type that rocks gear all the time is taken from this earth. (This is assuming he left while on a moto and not some other reason)

While KTM has made good products in the past (namely in the street legal dual sports that wernt bastardized by emissions) and varoius niche bikes (super crazy naked bikes, dumb powerful ADV bikes). I +1 to your statement. Its literally the reason why I went through the pretty gnarly process to get my 2014 WR450 allegedly CA street legal. (Plausible deniability mkay)

I walked into the same dealership I bought the WR450 from 2-2.5 years after I bought my wr450 with about all of 50-60hrs on the clock on the bike, This is the LARGEST KTM DEALERSHIP BY VOLUME IN THE USA. Realized I really wanted a street legal dirtbike so I could connect trails and the 2017 MY KTM 500 dual sport had tons of desirable changes.

Looked at one sat on it, went yeah this is nice, Salesmen went OK let me see what I can do for numbers. Comes back with 9.5k OTD. I go .... oh dang OK that aint half bad considering my WR450 was 7k OTD. "Whats the KTM with the trade in of my pretty new WR450".

"Oh no sir thats factoring in the trade in of your WR450".

BRUUUUH. Told em to pound sand and havent regretted keeping the WR450 one bit. All said and done if I went through the process to allegedly make a CA street legal WR450 including "fees" was ~800$ (DOT tires, lighting kit etc).

I'd rather pay less for a Yamaha or Honda that has a better track record for reliability. Most riders are not riding hard enough to need the performance offered by a KTM. Basically, if you're not maxing out your Japanese bike, you probably don't need the crazy Austrian one. Just my thought process.

Holy moly. Washington will pretty much plate anything if you know the right shop to sign off on "it's been brought up to legal requirements". The state patrol is so understaffed I don't think you even need anything besides a form saying it was done, no inspection or anything

Edit: here's a straight up dirt bike with a plate with zero attempts at even making remotely street legal

That was also my thought process. In the KTM/Husky Realm of 350/500cc plated dirtbikes, 99.9% of the riders do not need the extra performance / weight savings over something from japan... its just unfortunate that Yamaha/Honda offerings in that realm are slim. IF for some horrid reason I HAD to replace my WR450 it would probably be a CRF450L. The KTM/Husky price premium, parts availability (in the last year had two buddies wait for over 3 months for KTM parts) and potentially less than ideal reliability just isnt worth it for me and how I live life.

thats nuts... one of the local dealers near me was having a sale and i was looking at the 125 enduro ktm and told em i liked it but not the price at 10k... they said oh well we can knock it down to 8,999! like bruh... thats still about 9k for a 125!?! id get a Japanese bike but there is one issue with them... very few 2 strokes! and very few have headlights on them!
you see im use to that out here haha so i find it odd when you guys talk about how difficult it is. since i know a few people who have legal 2 stroke race bikes that they rip around.

where da hell that guy at btw he hasnt been postin anything lol
