Yeah I feel like it's a relatively newer thing. Not complaining though lol I learn best by practicing skills as they're taught to me, vs figuring it out myself or just reading/watching

weird you say that...most of the guys i've talked to about riding dirt refuse to ride tracks. From what I gather their concern is because it's more dangerous/reckless with all the extra riders, which makes sense. Personally I actually enjoyed it more, partly due to what I mentioned about crashing with people around, but also because the track is constantly changing from the other bikes rutting it out. and the dirt is much softer, I crashed a few times my first track venture, several times with the bike ending up on top of my leg, and barely even felt/noticed it.

Definitely a bit more stressful in that you have to be extra mindful of your line if you aren't outpacing/keeping up with everyone

lol the jumps are def a bit intimidating...i've seen enough cased jumps on IG to have a healthy fear of them lol. Still can't quite nail a double yet but it's progressing.

The line thing isn't too bad though. really just need to be predictable and not cut people off. I'm humble enough to know I'm not good enough to be competitive yet so that keeps me tame lol

The MSF program has been offered in PA in one form or another since at least 1986 or 87. I had already passed my test and had my license but took it anyway. A friend who raced motocross had taught me some basics but I had some less than perfect habits.

I grew up in a small Southeast town in AL. I started riding when I was 5(1984). We may have had something like that.....but it didn't make it in our newspaper  We just got set loose in the peanut fields :D

The lil xt225 with stock gearing will do ~85 indicated (78ish actual). It's revlimiter is valve float lol, there is zero ignition or fuel revlimiter (yes that can be a thing on a carbureted motor, ole kawi jetskis did this) haha. But the way it makes power it simply doesn't pull past a certain rpms as power drops off. I'd bet if I actually went up a tooth up front to drop cruising rpms it would bring it back down into power and be able to go faster. I have been meaning to try that, but also with its current stock gearing it's perfect for around town.

Out on the lil bike right now. It's such a great machine.... So much better than the Grom tbh

As far as an off road machine discussion above:
IF i was looking for a dedicated single track woods ripper, I'd be looking at building up a yz250 with a heavy flywheel and wide ratio transmission... But if I wanted an ultimate almost trials bike but not.

KTM Freeride 250r 2 stroke. It's like a trials bike with a seat. Always wanted one, I feel like it would be a cheat code for gnarly trials.

Yeah the KTM Freeride 250r hasn't been made for some time and was a pretty niche bike. It was a 250cc but essentially a trials motor that produces a lot of torque and not peaky HP.

Torquey 2 stroke tractor, light, small but still big enough to do a longer ride on.

It's one of the few KTMs that I keep an eye out for.

I actually really want one. My buddy had a plated Alta and the places he could get away with riding at due to the fact that you can't hear him... I could easily get it registered in NJ.
