Started in on the WR450 suspension refresh last night. Nothing was wrong, nothing was leaking suspension great as always but at 180 hrs on the bike which is way past the recommended service level it was time.

To my amazement everything and I mean EVERYTHING looked AWESOME, no excessive wear on main slider bushings, and all other smaller slider bushings looked brand new - phew. Oil level in the first fork's outer chamber I started in last night was VERY low, which makes main slider bushings lack of wear even more amazing, oil was not excessively dirty. Reason for low oil was simply use, it never leaked but every time suspension cycles you get a teenie-tiny amount of oil loss due to the film left on the fork tube. Not a problem if normal maintenance intervals were followed............. oops. Inner cartridge oil was similar, used but not completely degraded looking.

While I am in here I am doing a swap of the free piston to a vented one as the stock non vented plastic ones are known to get brittle and explode lol. This aluminum vented one should also make for a slightly plusher suspension. (KYB knew there was an issue with the non vent design but couldnt do anything due to patents that Showa had).

It got late so ill finish up this fork tonight and start in on the other this evening!

Just got a text from Steve the owner of the 2000 vfr800 and he is ready to let me look at it on Sunday. Hopefully he is still at his $4000 asking price that he originally had in the ad. I have a feeling it’s going to go up with the new tires , chain and sprockets.

Anyone have any recommendations for a lightweight small packable rain jacket n pants to run over normal riding gear in case of rain in warm weather?

Going to be in Maui for a week in april 4 days of which I will have a CRF250 Rally at my disposal! I can't freaking wait.

Also on that note, any recommendations on the island of Maui (food, sights etc etc)?

i was looking into that. ill most likely swap the leafs as well to a better brand like icons or deaver. but the airbag is a good idea for right know.

    Stopped in at a dealership today. Freaking KLX110’s are $2,899 now. That’s $200 more than a crf110

Literally the same as Firestone ride ride bags. I made my own lower mounting bracket cus I like to make things complicated, but the provided one will work just fine (it's also the same as Firestone)

Even with leafs you'll probably still want airbags. Stiff enough springs to hold a bike that far out will be torture without any weight

Honestly, if the old setup was good why not replicate it?

We honeymooned there a couple summers ago. Spent most of our time in Lahaina, which unfortunately entirely burned to the ground this year, so most of what I would suggest isn’t there anymore. That being said, Mamas Fish House was 100% worth it.
