For a long time at work I had wireless mics that used 9v batteries. I got to the point where I could tell if the battery had 1, 2, or 3 bars of power left by licking it. It was by far the fastest way to find a fresh-enough battery

 

If you are the only one testing the batteries, that's fine, but what about if somebody else licked them?
