We’re with Progressive for all 4 of our bikes, and I was with them for several years for my Subaru before I married my wife and switched over to her USAA account. We’ve been thinking of switching her car and my Tacoma from USAA to our Progressive policy lately. I wasn’t there when the adjuster went to the shop to look at it, so I’m not sure what their decision-making process was. I’m still waiting for a call from my actual agent to go over the final details.

 

Shoulder’s a bit better today, just still very stiff and sore and doesn’t wanna take any weight. This sling is driving nuts. I’m hoping the MRI Tuesday will be negative so I can start stretching it out and get back to usual soon.

I too was pretty shocked at the estimate. I know parts and labor add up, but 3grand seems like a lot!

 

I'm more surprised that 3 grand is enough to total it, isn't it brand new?

ya thats wild it was 3k! it dont look that bad tbh! and agreed with what tacotuesday said im shocked that was enough to total it! was the tank dented in? thats the only thing ive seen that usually totals a bike

 

It was just new to me. It’s a 2016 with 12k miles on it, and we paid $4500 before taxes and fees and stuff. No tank dent, just scraping on the emblem. I’ll post up a screenshot of their repair estimate below. Kudos to Progressive, they really went all out looking for what would need to get repaired. If it was actually new, I’d be super stoked at how detailed they were.

 

That's not awful, 1/3 of it is just the cluster. If they're willing to just cut you the check you could make out pretty well. If you're not re-doing the tank, outside of cluster programming (mileage, vin, whatever) I don't see anything on there your average person couldn't do themselves.

 

That’s what I’m hoping for. I wish they wouldn’t have wrote it as a total loss and would let me choose what to replace under insurance, but it is what it is. If I can get it salvage, I won’t be too upset. I just don’t wanna lose it. It’s got sentimental value to me at this point. lol.

 

To my understanding, insurance has to account for everything to be fixed to determine if it's fixable/total loss, but if it is fixable, then most will cut you a check and let you choose what to fix, under the caveat whatever you don't fix wouldn't be covered in the next incident.

Didn't realize it was just new to you, makes sense then it was totaled. Wild the gauge cluster and tank repair alone is half the cost. but makes sense. electronics and paint aren't cheap.

 

Out of curiosity just looked up what it would cost for my 14 y/o F800GS. Yikes.

Makes sense... I say ride the ones you have, see how many miles you can rack up doing two wheel therapy. I've heard a few people mention the difficulty transitioning to retired life, and can imagine the new routine (or lack thereof) is a big change. Hope everything works out for you!
