I tell non-riders that I pretend everyone else on the road is actively trying to kill me. It's stressful but the only way to survive nowadays.

Also why I limit my riding to the backroads or private property

I don't put my phone on my handlebars anymore. Ruined two cameras, not worth the risk again to me. What are y'all using your phone for you need it to be visible? I get navigation instructions audibly through my cardo and vibration on my watch/wrist. If someone texts me, it can wait until I stop or am able to check my watch and see it there. Really the only time I actually want to look at it constantly anymore is off-road maps where navigation blows and the difference between two very different road turn-offs can be 20ft apart.

I need the visible instructions for navigation. The audio always is a bit late for me and I'll miss my turn haha

I keep mine in my pocket. I have never mounted one on the bars b/c of the camera thing. It also helps that I have that BT navigation now. I also don't watch a smart watch or any comms

Works nearly perfect. It’s been on my bike since new and had plenty of bumpy two track riding without giving me problems. As with most iPhones it will overheat when the screen is left on and in the hot direct sun and stop charging. Usually not an issue and I can just turn the screen off and listen to the GPS directions if that happens. Get the base mount kit with the MagSafe case option and add these options:

The Quadlock charging is good, but if you plan on charging for long periods of time while your phone is exposed to the sun, there's a good chance it will overheat. Only problem I've ever had with my Quadlock system. I experienced this both on the bike and in the truck with the windshield mount. As for the camera, the vibration damper option should mitigate any vibration related issues. I learned that one the hard way when I first got my iPhone X and mounted it to a RAM x-grip. After that, I went Quadlock and haven't looked back.

I get this for sure. I have a spare phone (Samsung A12) that I got for free that I keep as a backup phone / offline navigation, thats what gets mounted on the bars of any bike even with that big vibration dampening mount i linked to. GPX Viewer pro with preplanned routes via gpx files and google maps offline have done me well, I just update at home on wifi and call it good out in the field.

Not worth exposing the main phone to the elements (sun, dust, vibrations) or potential crash. I have had a few buddies kill the gyro in their phones by mounting it on the bars with and without vibration dampening.

I really only ever mount it when I need navigation for work purposes. Otherwise I'll run it through my helmet audio.

I have the rokform mount. But like @nd4spdbh said, it sucks needing the specific case. The rokform case is stout for sure, but I don’t like carrying it around daily. I switch the case out when not riding.

Rokform also has a vibration damper for the mount. I’ve never had issues with the camera taking a dump on my phone like others, but maybe I’m lucky.

I can’t feel my watch vibrating while I ride and like another mentioned, I like to see the directions a step early. :notsure:

I do need a charging solution though cause #iphonebattery. :ballchain:

On my tenere I have a 12v socket I slap a standard flush mount car cig lighter USB charger in then use a short USB c cable to my phone on the bars.

Used the same mount n backup phone on the dirtbike and never needed to keep charged for the duration of the day, but I do have some plans for a USB on there in case the need arrives.

I bought. Ram mount for the bike as I have an old phone to use for the bike, and DL’d maps for areas I plan on going to for GPS mapping.

That said, I have yet to use the old phone for it.

that said, that said.. :D I have since bought the Zumo for a dedicated GPS (a few months back). if I plan on hitting the National forest. I will take the old phone and mount (trailer bike out and leave the old in truck), if the Zumo doesn’t do what I want it to do. Then I will switch over to the Ram mount.

The personal daily phone, goes in the tank bag.

I walked my local HF friday evening looking for that damn thing. the first time was a no-go. second time, looking up and down every single isle….. still a no go. ended up having to ask the girl behind the counter as cell service in the store sucks. She looked it up and said what isle it was on. I still could not find it. She (worker chick) walks over and points it out for me. She was 30+ feet from me, and spots it hanging on the black drop wall of a display for the Icon stuff.

I didn’t realize how mini it was.
