Probably nice and smooth! I'd like to run around there for future FSR roads, but don't have a compressor yet. For now I just have the compression backed out a few clicks front / rear. Really need to make an effort to dial in street / offroad settings at some point.

That all makes sense. Mine have just the one nut tight to the rim. I do let some air out for the dirt roads, but not much. Baby Versys barely has enough giddy-up to spin 80/20's in the mud, no worries about spinning a tire on the rim

1 nut loose off the rim, the other tightened against the valve stem cap. The only tube I ever tore was at the valve stem with the nut on the inside. Regularly run 10-12 psi in the rocks.

I eventually want to get another wheel for the rear to run a rock dedicated setup and a pines setup. Rock setup would get 2 rim locks and a bib mousse.

Don't hear anyone say anything about slave cylinders in the offroad stuff. The 690 is the only one I know that has an issue.

I abuse the shit out of my clutch.
Guessing by the picture its about the nuts. Ive always done 1 inside and 1 outside tight. The other thing ive seen is the outside loose and up against the cap so the valve can tilt if needed.
Id agree. I never had a tube slip running at 12. It's typically the single digits that have the issue.

I have run mousse. Only reason to use 2 rim locks is if you're running "too soft" of one aka too small

A dude on one of the exc/fe tech talk groups mentioned being able to get a ton of miles, even road use on them with 2 locks and basically cutting up a valve stem and turning it into a grease zerk. Haven't tried it in practice yet but I'd like to.

Always run one nut on either side of the rim. My dirtbikes have rimlocks.

Dang, given how good the S10's hydro clutch is I'm surprised you don't like hydros more. I love hydraulic clutches, I put a Magura Hymec on the Versys that I loved. The Super Tenere's clutch is so smooth and linear. I love it.

Meh, the super ten's clutch is pretty hard and similarly smooth as any of my other bikes with cable clutches.

25 yrs of riding motos, not one clutch cable has had to be replaced, just some lube here and there down the cable (like once every couple years). 2 yrs of super ten ownership, Bled the clutch once, rebuilt the master once (which again required bleeding).

Pros n cons for sure, but I like simple.

It is a weighty clutch but I like that with the kind of bike it is. I don’t mind cable clutches but still prefer a hydro.

I really wish the S10 had throttle by wire though.

S10 is throttle by wire, it doesn't look like it though due to having 2 cables that run down to the sensor at the throttle body to keep those electronics out of harms way and the elements.

The firmness of the hydraulic took me a minute, but that's probably because the CB500X is geared toward newbies and has the lightest slipper clutch ever. One finger is all it takes. (Giggity)

Sure, but it still has cables that introduce slack/freeplay which is frustrating. And if they break you’re still SOL.

Just had a nice morning of riding. Set out on the first real ride on the 750 now that the ECU has been flashed. Took a few miles to get used to the seating position and how to hold my hands, arms and back. Got more comfortable as I put miles on. Rode for about 100 miles, noticed that vibes start at 5k on up. @ 60mph rpm’s are at about 4.5k so just about perfect and smooth. Bike had lots of power in the upper RPM range but it also has good pull in the 4-7k range which is good. I don’t think I will touch the gearing. The bikes handling is the best part. I can take corners (what is fast to me) and not even have to lean off the bike. It’s like it’s a point and shot and it’s on rails. Even better than the R3 IMO. It can take corners much faster and I can’t wait to get it to the track.
Then I came home and jumped on the FZ1. Holy crap at first it was so weird because the steering is 100% different. The FZ1 I thought was buzzy but after being on the 750 it felt smooth as silk! lol. The FZ1 shows its weight but both bikes have plenty of power. I cruised through a construction zone and once I got passed the flagger I tried a clutch up second gear wheelie and ended up laying a 30’ black patch. I think the tires must have been a little cold. The FZ1 is obviously more comfortable for longer rides. As of right now the FZ1s brakes are way better than the 750. The 750 needs pads and the braided brake lines. They will be here soon so it will be interesting to see what the improvements are.
So I want to keep both bikes. They each are real good at what they do. Some say the GSXR 750 is the best middle weight bike made and others say the Yamaha FZ1 is the most underrated sport touring bike made. The Kawasaki KLX 300 is a top rated small bore dual sport and the Honda Monkey is one of the best mini bikes out there. So what I am trying to say is I have just about the best of everything in motorcycles. I want to keep them all and I think I will. Now I just have to pay myself back a couple grand for buying the 750.

Any mousse that is going to be used on the road is stiff enough to not need two locks. Otherwise it'd get too hot on the road and get cooked anyways.

I do like them. They soak up a lot of small stuff by absorbing the bump vs tube where the pressure wants to return.

They are bitch to put in if they are too big.

Well the FZ1 is still for sale right now. Asking 8k so if someone showed up with that much I would most likely let it go. Not going to be dropping the price trying to sell. At least that way the wife still thinks I am trying. It is really that nice of a motorcycle in excellent condition.
