just a couple of things tbh
@BkerChuck got a question for ya. I've always wanted a cb750 I have found a 1980 cb750k it's torn down and sitting in a barn for like 500 bucks. Thinking about driving out and picking it up and doing well what ever I want with it lol. Anything to note on what is special about the k trim or to look at with these older Honda's?

Not super familiar with the K model personally. I think that might be the more touring oriented? How far "torn down " is it? If it's got the whole engine and trans apart that's going to be a money pit in my book. My CB400F I paid $600 in 2010 and it was complete and fully assembled it just hadn't moved in about 8 years but was stored indoors.

Check out David Silver Spares online and see what parts availability looks like. That might help give you a better idea of prices and parts availability.

K is the standard model of cb750's for that timeframe. "C" were the "custom" ones with some different parts and lower gearing.

For me, would really depend on how torn down it is, how long it has been sitting and in what condition it's been sitting, and what it is missing. My rule of thumb is it was torn down for a reason, and left for a reason. Spares aren't awful to find, but IMHO the thing will nickel and dime you to death for random rubber or lines or calipers or whatever.

Also, was the engine left open? carbs left off? If you're having to rebuild the engine that'd probably make it not worth it real quick. Carb rebuilds on these are complex, since there's 4 of them with a bunch of crossovers and linkages, but totally doable.

The market has fallen out for cb750's, I think, so I'm guessing 99% chance it'll be more cost effective to buy a runner. My $0.02.

Also finish your civic before you buy another project ;)

Good points minus finish my civic lol

But the bike according to the guy was torn down a year or two ago then parked in the barn I'm guessing his brother passed away.

    All really good points!

My 400 has those carb crossover tube's you mentioned. They're plastic with o-ring grooves at both ends and can Crack leading to fuel leaks. The o-rings are metric and a lot of people try to take shortcuts fitting regular o-rings which will just leak again in short order. There was someone machining aluminum crossover tubes back then.

The carbs I have no issues with since my buddy with the old goldwing is good at rebuilding and tuning them.

There's a lot of parts I don't see. Rear fender and rest of airbox for a start. Carbs are open so likely dirty AF. As it sits no more than $250 in my book.

Oh, that's barely torn down at all. Wheels, air box, side covers, seat, maybe an hour or two to put it back together. Could be a fun project, ebay, david silver spares like chuck mentioned, 4into1.com, vintagecb750.com, parts exist out there. Biggest downside when I was trying to do stuff on my one I sold was a lot of the old forums are pretty abandoned and getting questions answered gets trickier and trickier without joining a thousand facebook groups.

Oh good point, that is only half the air box. That might be an expensive part these days. Pod filters are a notorious PITA on these CV carbs.

Doesn't bother me a bit. My first thoughts with the 400 were café racer. Once I had it home and took my time just giving it a good cleaning I began to realize how complete and original it was which changed my plan. What you're looking at is ideal for that in that there are things missing or not original. That muffler is not stock, can't really tell about the header.

Pod air filters are less than ideal but if going café are appropriate. Most bikes of that nature aren't seeing lots of miles anyway. I'd pull front sprocket cover and make sure engine is free as a condition of purchase.
