Ugh. That fucking kid backed out on buying the 701 :pout: Said he wants to buy from a dealer so he can do payments and get a warranty, which I get, but also said he was afraid it was too much power, despite earlier saying he wanted a bike he wasn't going to grow out of.

    Freaking youths.

I think they brought them as autos to just test the waters here in the US with this model. It has been selling awesome in europe for years in manual and auto. I'm betting if it is popular here they'll bring over the other versions, similar to how they have the Africa Twin. Police are getting the manual here in the US.

I've actually heard these DCTs are becoming the more popular new models for Honda as they allow folks who have never ridden to get into the sport. It's winning over riders that wouldn't otherwise exist. But yeah, for folks who know how to ride, they can choose any bike or any brand.

I really thought the NT plus a dual sport would be my future, but Nicole really wants to get a new SxS for offroading, rather than do bikes or keep her atv. I love my CB500X, but I now know I'm not going to do any adventure riding (which CB is not the best at anyhow). So a more street only bike will be fine for me.

But saying all this, all that matters is that you and your girl get to go ride together. I know my wife prefers riding her own bike! I'd say just save your money until she decides she's ready for a bike like yours so it's easier to keep up when you start doing a little faster roads and such. Is she tall enough to ride a taller bike in another year or 2?

He did mention he was about to get married...

Still though, really hope he doesn't buy that DRZ4S. I can't imagine with dealer fees and shipping and crap he's getting out of there for less than $11,000. Which is bonkers for a 400cc bike. And when he outgrows it in a year he's going to lose his ass on resale value.

    prob the wife then lol

out here there is a few of the drz4s and otd is about 10k so on par with ktm and the likes of them.

yes ktm and them have other pluses but the fact they sell some bikes at 13k for a dirtbike is just insane lol.

ya thats fair just idk odd? i just dont see how you can have fun with it lol.

i have heard that as well where people are getting into it which is good but idk if they will go to something better lol.

oh well thats kinda a bummer tbh! sxs to me are not that much fun.. they are neat but about it plus 90% of them legit shouldnt be behind the wheel of them!
what sxs are you looking at?

yuup we wont be riding to work but we can still have fun ridding around town or on trips and such or on trails. is she tall enough? ehhh she is 5'4" so not really lol. she has a taller torso and short legs so normal dirtbikes are just way to tall for her lol. now she can go to cruisers like the bolt, rebel and so on! but any adventure style bikes or sport touring like the tracer is to tall for her to feel comfortable with it.

No no no, NOT the same as KTM. drz4s is not comparable to a KTM dirtbike, it's comparable to a KTM 390. They just came out with the enduro R not that long ago, which is much more dirt oriented and IMHO higher spec than the drz, for $6500 including freight and tariff add on crap. DRZ is $9600. You're not getting that OTD for under $11K in WA. Suzuki's pricing is still mind boggling to me.

We've had a ton of fun with my Terxy4 (it's a cross between a mountain goat and a tank). I've enjoyed it and run it harder than most people with the Turbo 1000s. Just can't climb as good as they can in the sand. I do have a full set of paddles (ribbed front, straight rears) that make it pretty good though. I've done Banshee Hill a couple times, if you've ever heard of that climb out on the Oregon Dunes.

Her old Ace. Short lived toy. Way more power than suspension did not go well together.

She's interested in getting one of the RZR trails, the 50 inch wide one. It's a much smaller footprint and we can hit some of the narrow trails that I wouldn't fit on now. I'm not a fan of Polaris, but it's the best in that form factor. She fell in love with it when we were looking at the NT a few weeks ago at a dealership, lol.

My wife's about 5'3", so yeah, the Rebel with its super low seat height has been perfect for her comfort level, both the 500 and 1100. Only other bike she's liked to sit on so far was the Honda Monkey, lol.

Yes I did everything only thing I did not do was the actual machining of the triple trees, rear gear and shifter.
Everything else I personally did. I will say Stephen at Revival cycles was a great help troubleshooting shooting and that’s where I purchased all the motogadget stuff and wiring. They have a lot of great videos for diy.

meh its a dual sport ktm has multiple dualsports that are in the 10k range. they just recently came out with the 390 which yes is a good price point but the 390 duke ive ridden honestly sucked... and this was when i had my drz400 now id be interested to see how similar it is to the duke i rode or if its the same.

over here there is multple at the 9600 that you can get it for 10k now i do still find it wild to see it at that price but here is the other thing. will this bike be as reliable and a overall swiss army knife like the old drz? if so then it will sell very well and do well. if it doesnt then well suzuki shot them selves in the foot.

Polaris seldom makes their rigs easy to work on. Even jump starting the ACE required me unbolting some plastic and bending/creasing it back to attach a positive clamp. Negative clamp just went to the frame, no way to reach both in there. Otherwise I'd have had to pull the entire seat, and even more stuff.

A search and rescue quad I had stored at my place for quite awhile was equally a pain. Had to swap the battery in that and it was a bitch. was mounted under the exhaust in front of the engine leaving little to no room to get it in and out. I shoulda covered the Pos+ when working on it, but I definitely sparked it a couple times trying to get it out, hitting the frame or the exhaust.

Also not a fan of the demand drive fluid needed for their front AWD diff. Mainly having another fluid that needs changed regularly. Instead of having a regular transfer case where you can choose 4wd or 2wd, when you put it in 4wd it only engages when the rear wheels spin faster than the front, and then a clutch is used to engage the front wheels. That clutch needs the demand drive fluid changed to keep functioning properly.

Fit and finish has always been subpar, too. Though they are getting better over time, so not as big an issue on their newer machines.

Sorry but i have to disagree. The ktm "dual sports" ie 500exc/350exc are dirtbikes that have tags. And they make a great dual sport bike (500 at least). They are wayyyyy better than a drz. And for the pricing of the new drz4s still a better value.

They are pricey because they are that good.

Might be test riding the new Hornet 750 on Friday. I contacted a dealer near me and asked if they offer test rides. He said yes short test rides with endorsement. So I have Friday free. I won’t be buying new but want to see if it’s something I want when used ones start popping up forsale.

That bike is sweet! Had my FZ1 for sale for almost two years before I found a buyer. I have no doubt yours will sell much, MUCH quicker!

Rode down to the Woodstock Tower with the intent of getting a nice panoramic pic of the valley. Could not do it as my acrophobia kicked in halfway up. The fact that the stairs and floor are see-through and the side railing felt like it only came up to my waist did not help. I've made it up before but always with other people. Was pissed at myself but just could not make myself do it. Maybe next time!

Luckily I bought everything in 2017 when I bought the bike. Just a pain if I need to replace any of the aftermarket stuff some day.

That little blue thing in the second picture has me laughing. Looks like an old school VW bug with the roof chopped off and a cage put on it. Love it!

Is that Woodstock, Va.? If so, I have passed that path many a time and keep forgetting to go climb it.

It was pretty sweet for what it was. Pretty much a polaris sportsman quad that was lengthened and a seat dropped in it. We were the 3rd owner. 2nd owner had used it like 1x. I posted a photo of it in a FB group and found the original owner. They had done just about everything possible to it. Custom Cage and doors, winch, performance exhause with tuned DynoJet controller. PRP suspension seat, quick release steering wheel, harnesses, rims, tires, oh and paddles with shaved mud tires for the front... It was so stupid loud, and again, it was faster than the suspension could handle. Would beat you up pretty bad if you tried to really go for it on rough terrain.

    31542796_10108618305363810_4610502544483_4d4be3817388b3f039022ed11e87980133d4b3ea.jpg

The cage was also super short. I'd hit my head on the grab bar getting in and out all the time. And i'm only 5'6". We actually found a light up flag while we were at Moses Lake (picture below), and when we plugged it into the harness it lit up Purple, hahaha.

The day we sold it, the buyer showed up with another completely decked out ACE on their trailer. An hour later I get a text from the original owner of ours saying they ran into the folks we sold it to, and that the other ACE they had was built for her best friend. Found it hilarious that they somehow ended up back together.
