Dang yeah I dont see myself spending 5k+ for a bike. If I was to get a 525 it would be the oldest one I could find probably or most miles.

Be nice to find one that needs some work and I could get for a good price.

I think the most I would spend as of now the maximum of 3k. Which I don't think will get me much lol

used lower mileage DRZs are cheap ;)

The drz just still seems it would be in that heavy range for weight. Wouldn't be too much of an upgrade I don't think. I'm

And we'll since its not technically mine I don't think so. It's really my dad's bike, but he lets me ride it since he has a Harley. But now he just bought a 98 xr650l for cheap so we have 2. The other is 2005. Still a possibility he would let me sell one but I'm not a fan of him just handing me money.

I think I'm just going to keep looking at craigslist and such and see if a deal pops up on something. I'm in no hurry as I don't have the funds as of now.

Give me ~$3,000 and I'll go get one right now. Otherwise shut your mouth. We've discussed the plan :p

    Do it! Spring 2017!

@gray223 i love my 03 DRZ its all stock including the gearing and i can cruise at 60 no problem. I've been riding it to work and around the city a lot since i bought it.

My only complaint is that its a little tall so off camber stuff is a little sketchy at times.

The advantage of a DRZ is that it's been around pretty much unchanged for 15 years. It's an "economy" bike in that it's simple and not under a lot of stress which is the main reason they are known for their reliability. it isn't made for racing, and it's specs are proof of that. Any problems are well known because they've been around for awhile. If all you can afford is $3000, a DRZ is really the only sensible choice. And if you're going to be using it for trails and non-highway roads, it's got enough power. Kawasaki had a KLX400 for a little bit that is exactly the same bike as a Drz..literally Suzuki made it and Kawasaki put their name on it. Might want to add those into your search.

You could *maybe* find a Yamaha wr250r for around 3k. Yea it's a 250 but it's fuel injected so it'll feel a little bit more powerful than a carbed 250.

^^ I second that. A wr250r is a great bike it also has a 6 speed transmission and does fine cruising at 65mph. It would also be lighter for the trails as well. In my opinion I think the best bike would be a drz 400. Only because if you decided that you didn't want it, you wouldn't have a problem at all trying to sell it and you could probably get your money back for it. I had a drz 400 supermoto for a long time and absolutely loved it!!!! When I sold my bike it had around 24000 miles on it and was still going strong. That's with an aftermarket pipe, rejected carb, and 3x3 air box mod. I never thought I needed more power on the streets. Get me on a curvy road and the Sport bikes couldn't hang with me at all. Ill try and post so pictures later. Even on gravel roads with my street tires on I never had a problem. When I sold my drz I sold it for about 400 dollars less then what I bought it for and I put 14000 miles on it. They are so bullet proof!!!! Cant go wrong with a good old DRZ!!!! The only thing I didn't like about my DRZ is that for long trips it sucked to ride lol

Ive ridden mine at 70+ for an hour easy. 300 hard miles in one day (aka beating the piss out of it). It's a great bike just a little slower and heavier than newer 450s. Maintenance is low key and it can do everything.

I know if I was looking again I'd be getting a wr450, but that's out of your budget.

So the drz does seem like a vaiable option. I just need to see how much money I'm making during the summer and go from there.

I'm just not seeing it as much of an upgrade in the weight department. Not like the ktm's or wr450 would give me.

Fast, cheap, reliable. Pick two, cause something that meets all 3 doesn't exist.
