Finally got my ass in gear and did some maintenance on the S1000RR to get her back on the road, after a long hiatus.

The front went on with just a bit more effort than a normal tire change I say. It's nice being able to man handle it without worrying about a pinched tube.

Rear however took a little more strategy, mostly for the last bite on the second bead and me needing to push the opposite side of the tire into the drop center more.

Just need to slap new bearings in that front wheel, and reinstall the wheels. Then I'll set sag and I'll be ready for Sunday's race.

Speaking of sag, had no idea the guy who setup the suspension for my buddy also put an xtrig adjuster on there. Never knew that was even a thing.

Finally started getting some parts in on the 2012 Daytona for the track. Stock dog bone was delivered today. (previous owner had it lowered) New side stand will be here tomorrow because they hacked the one that is on there because it was lowered. Also this week I'm expecting new front and rear sprockets and chain. Next up will be fresh buns, new levers, brake pads, oil and filter and air filter. Then we can at least get her out on the road to get used to her. Still needs a lot of TLC but we'll get her there.

How she looked the day we got her home.

Also upgraded the levers on the Panigale finally haha

My boss bought a triumph for track use, we all got super excited, then we found out it has 4 cylinders :smack: The TT 600 is cool, but when I think triumph I want 3 cylinders.

Does the bike have a slipper clutch? I have realized I 100% need that feature if I'm riding any sort of aggressive corners. I'm too careless with downshifts.

Yeah, I might be cooked, but really hoping its the water pump seal. There's a guy at a dealership over in moscow that if I remember right raced the LC4 platform (this engine) and is a really fucking smart dude, was a red bull KTM dakar mechanic at one point, raced dakar and got a 3rd place finish, etc. I just sent him this:

    Hey Matt,

I don't know if you remember me or not, I came in a few times last summer and the summer before and had you order me some grom accessories for a grom I picked up there in 2023 and proceeded to do a bunch of stuff to it.

Anyways, like the subject says, if I remember correctly when you and I were talking about the Grom you built up and did the big bore, yoshi, third bearing, etc. on, you were saying you used to race a lot of the LC4 platform? Am I remembering that right?

I own a 2022 701SM right now (still have the grom, too), and discovered this weekend and today that its been eating coolant. Sunday I refilled the overflow tank, it overheated again today on a ride, so I checked and it had sucked down about half of it, so I checked the radiator and it was almost empty. Took probably another 600ml into it to get it back up to the neck. I don't know how low it got Saturday when I first got it real hot and noticed something was up. My fault for not checking it enough, but its been a hoot this summer commuting to work and back, this is the first major stumble I've had with it. and I'm really hoping it only started saturday and hasn't been an issue for a while.

Obviously my mind goes to head gasket first, but some googling says that occasionally the water pump seals go bad and push coolant into the oil. In your experience with them have you seen that? Really, really hoping thats the case vs a head gasket. If I pull the water pump cover off, would there be an obvious sign it was that seal behind the impeller?

I pulled the spark plugs and they look normal-ish. Maybe a little corrosion but the ceramic is nice and tan, not white or blackened like I'd expect if it was burning oil and coolant. A little white gunk on the strap. Engine has 11K miles and I've put about 500 of those on it, I'm guessing the original plugs based on the last owner and how bad he was at maintenance so that didn't surprise me either. I also haven't seen any smoke coming out the exhaust, which again I'd expect if it was a head gasket.

I'd really appreciate any insight you might have! And if I'm completely wrong and it was LC8's or something that I'm mis-remembering, sorry for bothering you with this email. Also don't know if you'll need to charge me shop time for this email or something haha.

    Thanks,
    Spencer Desmarais

I *think* the signs point to water pump with is a $50 parts kit with an oil change.. and if I caught it early then hopefully I didn't torch all my fucking bearings with milkshake..
