I can see the appeal to an EV, but they need to make it less of a flashy new and different thing.

Hands down, Tesla makes the best EVs. Most chargers, best range, highest performance, etc., but the interior of the two "affordable" models is just god awful. Throwing everything into a screen in the dash that looks like tablet tacked on as an afterthought, no tactile controls for HVAC or radio so adjusting them requires taking your eyes off the road or using voice commands, a stupid gear selector that just had to work differently than anything any other car has ever used, removing the turn signal stalk and using buttons on the steering wheel, and eliminating a true instrument cluster to throw that info into that center tablet... all bad ideas IMO.

Combine that with this idiotic myth that having an EV is somehow helping the environment and it's hard to stomach the cultish push that EVs have had. I think a big turnoff for lots of potential EV buyers is that they've met the egotistical, self-righteous morons that flock to them for virtue signaling and nobody with sense wants to be lumped in with that stigma.

That said, if they were actually affordable I would consider one as a second car, and it's one of the few ways I wouldn't have an issue buying used.

Also, CVTs are garbage and should never have been put into cars.

While that makes me giggle, ICE vehicles spontaneously catch fire far more often than EVs.

Did you see the focus we rescued at 11 PM? I was literally about to go to sleep and then after all that I stayed up till 1 and the rest of them still stayed up and hung out till like 2. Glad I have fans in the truck to drown out their laughing and carrying on.

Yeah man I def get it now. Plus its so nice just slamming into rocks at speed not giving a fuck. Before if I took a hard hit I was like oh man I am def going to pop.

Ha most were like short video stories. These were the only pics I got.

My commute sounds awesome compared to most of yours. It is about 10 miles. 1 mile in the small one stop light town I live in. 7 miles down country highway that follows a lake, so lots of sweeping corners, drops down into three or four creek bottoms that dump into the lake, cross two bridges. Final 2 miles down county roads that are about 1.75 lanes wide, no shoulder or paint, past a couple of dairy farms.

Yeah I'd like an EV that doesn't scream "I'm an EV". I like the BMW i4 for that reason since it looks like a 3/4 series, but it's still expensive and super ugly lol.

I'm excited to see what the Slate truck turns out like, that looks like the first truly bare bones EV, but I probably wouldn't replace my Toyota with one.

I can see the appeal if you live in the city. For most people I think hybrids or something like the rav4 prime or the scout with the harvester make more sense for me personally.

I do far too many road trips and towing to go pure EV until battery capacity / efficiency improves significantly.

also ive worked in IT long enough, I'll take a simple car that just works. I dont want everything tied into a screen. gimme the buttons that do the thing when I press them. touch screens are great but terrible for when you are trying to drive.

Yeah, I wouldn't touch BMW for anything. They're d-bags. They started the subscription crap for cars and have gotten worse about it. Plus, if you look at the EV VW bus thing and how to change it's cabin air filter... the engineering is completely retarded.

The slate sounds good as pitched, but I bet it comes out more expensive and less capable than originally touted. That's how all EV stuff goes, even Teslas.

Yeah, I would only consider an EV as a second vehicle. Zero percent chance I'd go to only having an EV.

Same. I've driven more than 600 miles in a day multiple times, and that would be a nightmare in an EV.

Yup. I have no worries about the driving function because electric motors are pretty simple. It's all the computer shit in the screen that concerns me, and I share your sentiment about the touchscreen. It's fine for low activity items or things only done while stationary, but there should be tactile buttons for radio, HVAC, and the like.

That I won't pay. I tell toyota they can blow it out their asses as well. BMW is worse though. They are locking horsepower behind a sub. It's dogshit behavior from any automaker.

When I said best I was being objective. They have the best battery tech and charging network, more range, etc. Looks are subjective, though I agree that they are boring at best and ugly at worst. To be fair, all cars are big plastic things now.

As for the cult, that's not restricted to Tesla. It's all over the EVs.

I feel like BMW lost the plot after the mid-2000's. I love my 1998 BMW but I probably wouldn't own anything much newer than that. I just hate that all the EV stuff also comes with so many screens and complications. My wife and I sat in the Afeela 1 (Honda/Sony car) and I love the looks of the car but the entire inside is basically screens and it's just too much.

i know... idk what it fully entails on the subscription for them i just read a blurb about it but didnt go to far into it.

i will say thou on the cfmoto front the 450ss does not sound like a 400 the thing sounds rather wild with an exhaust kit! one blew past me on the highway over the weekend and we went on the same exit and noticed it was the little 450.

The IP theft on design makes most of it garbage in my book. Plus, I wrote them off when Zach and Spurgeon (I think that's who it was) took one on an adventure ride they were doing and said it all felt cheap. Power was there but there was no refinement. The clutch felt like shit and it felt poorly put together. Don't remember which CFM they were using, but it was a few years ago.
