On an air cooled bike I think heat cycles are a good idea. Water cooling, maybe for the first 250-300 but not as big of a deal after that.

Just going to stick with my plan. It’s a very controversial subject just like oil. :anonymous: To each their own and I would never tell someone how to break in their new bike. :bananadead: I have the time to do these short rides so why not.

Just got back from ride #4 with a total of 117miles and staying under 6k in rain mode.

Congrats on the new bike! Im jelly... that would be my ultimate Hoon naked bike for sure.

A heatcycle or two is a good thing, but you do need some load on things to seat rings, transmission etc in IMO. That stated these modern motors have such good machining and materials that likely regardless of how you break it in as long as an initial oil change is done well before the recommended first oil change, then consistent oil changes after they will go for a LOOONG time.

Last ride for today another 30 miles. I now have 185 miles. Did my first mod, rear spools. I will put the tank protectors on tomorrow.

When I say “heat cycle” I mean shorter 25-30 mile rides loading and unloading the engine then letting it completely cool. Just didn’t take it over 6k. So I now have 6 rides like that. I will do two more tomorrow then change the oil and filter. Then I will be comfortable taking the rpm’s higher.

I will likely never buy a brand new bike, so I avoid the worry.

Years back during my time at a Harley dealership Harley Davidson brought out a special edition of the V-rod specifically for NHRA drag racing called the Destroyer. This was a pure race bike straight from the factory without a VIN number, equipped with slicks, air shifter, and a wheelie bar. Our shop got one with the idea of 2 of our techs alternating riding duty and going racing. Warranty on this bike was that it would start.....once. That was the entire warranty, one start. It came with a very specific recommended break in and I was offered the chance to assist. Break in was done on our chassis dyno per the instructions. Fire it up and let it build a little heat then run it up to 4k at roughly half throttle and hold it there. We shot a IR temp gun at the thermostat housing and brought the coolant temp up to 200 then shut the bike off and let it cool to 100. Restart then go to 4k rpm at 75% throttle until temp hit 200. Shut down, cool to 100 then refire the motor take it to 6k at half throttle and 200 degree temp. Cool, then 6k at 75% to 200 degrees then cool. 2 more cycles at 8k following the same pattern, then 2 passes at 10k using the same procedure. After that it was recommended to finish break in at a drag strip with a prepped starting surface. Our lower parking lot was swept, treated, and a few holeshots performed.

I will tell you that at 10k rpm on an unmuffled V-twin that even with hearing protection it got loud in that little dyno cell! Most fun engine break in I've ever been a part of.

side+view+bags_fabdc998999e8cb7b93f72210a822d5b824c1631.jpgignore the wr but i found someone selling these wolfman expedition dry bags both side bags and the larger top bag. the guy is selling them for 250 but its hard to tell if thats a good deal since on wolfmans website i cant find these exact bags anymore.... anyone know if thats a good deal or bad one? id like to use them on the t7 for camping and most likely adventure palooza.

wolfman states you dont need to have a rack with these which is nice but i have been looking at the tusk rack setup that is flush with the rear t7 fender.[IMG]

forgot to add that i also found someone selling a moskomoto nomax tank bag (v3.0) for 250 as well so prob going to snag that as well so i can have all the bits that i need for the bike.[IMG]

that reminds me, I think I still have a set of dry bags sitting around somewhere. I should probably sell those.

No telling on the Wolfman, gear. I did a quick look over on their site and found some info on them in the archived print section. if I had to guess, they could be up to 10 years old as an update was done back in 2016 for universal tie-downs. I’d say if they are still watertight and the price is good for yea, why not.

    info for mounting.

I was really surprised how large this tank bag is. My buddy got one that's practically brand new with that BMW he bought. I was talking about how it seemed like such a great bag and he said he knew already, and pointed to his KTM that already had one on it.

It would be far too large for my bike. Are you sure it's a good fit for the Tenere? I see some people say it's too big and gets in the way when offroad and wanting to move around on the bike.

you should prob do that haha what do you have incase these are not what i want lol
ya i was wondering if they were older tbh! thats why i wonder if 250 is even a good deal on them? he claimed the top bag was 180 alone which okay cool but when was the others bought?

ill take a look at that thanks!
tbh not to sure! i told the gal selling it id like to take a look and see if its to much! the main thing i like is the water bag part of it. if i can not wear a backpack that would be ideal! ill go and look at it and see if its to much or not! i do worry that it might be honestly for the t7 since its a smaller bike.

I never liked the look of the Gnome since it is more of a cross tank one (wider than it is long), but looks like a good choice on the Tenere. Also has a water bladder.

Few decent pics in this article.

so i gave them a call to ask when they stopped making them and all that.

they stopped making that version of the bags in 2019 and sadly they do not use any of the same stuff so if something breaks on them you have to kinda figure it out your self or just toss them. i was told if he can find what the og price for these were he will send me an email but he doesnt fully remember. he did say if you get them for a good price they will last a long time and if they ever tear you can get any basic patch for vinyl and it will work very well but he recommends to patch it on the inside and outside to keep the dry feature still part of the bags.

obviously he asked why not buy our new bag set lol[IMG]
and dont get me wrong they look good as well but rather small compared to these used ones.
