Yeah sportbikes can get uncomfortable pretty quickly on the street. My SV650S isn't much better since it also has clip-ons. Using your core to hold you up takes the pressure off your wrists but the risers will be a big help. I'm planning to pick up a little cruiser in the next few months.

Weather is so nice in Georgia I took the bike for the 37-mile commute to work today. Only problem was getting stuck behind a chicken truck for 7 miles through a single-lane construction zone. :annoyed: I don't smell so great.

I've been stuck behind a dump truck hauling sand. Nothing better then being sandblasted. But chicken shit must suck just as bad

All my rigs are purpose built. From crawling to camping. I also enjoy a nice stock truck for what that’s worth. Toyota’s are the jam!
Nope..that’s not going down, I would have to pass or turn around.

Single lane, no passing, half the road was gone, gravel on both sides. There was no passing, no alternate route. It was rough. I was about fourth in line behind the truck.

I've had it for three months. Tried to ride every dry chance I get. I'm new to cruisers, having always ridden naked bikes and cafe bikes. I scrape the pegs a lot and probably shift quicker than I should. I have to remind myself it's not a street bike. I put on quiet baffles. It's still plenty loud, but not overpowering at highway speed. The seat was okay on the commute today @ 65-70mph, but I can see some better shocks in my future. Wind was not an issue with the flyscreen. The steering isn't as heavy as I expected it to be with the big tire up front. It rides fine with a passenger on the rear. I like it! I don't see myself growing tired of it any time soon. I'll probably add some Denali lights for commuting. I've had a couple oblivious folks pull out in front of me.
This is a 2011 model, so it doesn't have the upgraded progressive shocks and fatter front forks that are on the 2015 and newer models.

Good summary, thanks man! I'm new to cruisers as well and this one's on my shortlist.

Each year model differs aesthetically. They changed up tanks pretty regularly. The big change came around '15 or '16 with the new progressive shocks, fatter front forks to dampen that big front wheel, and the change from spoke to cast wheels. I really wanted the spoke wheels and didn't like the new tanks, so I opted for a clean, low-miles, older model over a newer bike. I haven't ridden the newer models, so I can't compare the ride. Given that the newest bike I ever owned was a '96 GS500E, this thing is pretty smooth for a Harley.

Yeah I've never purchased new - I always look for well maintained, low mileage vehicles/bikes. My budget is around $5-6k so I'd be getting an older model as well. So far I'm mainly looking at the Harley 1200, Yamaha Bolt, and Triumph Bonneville.

I was saving for a Bonneville several years back when I nice '75 CB500 jumped in my lap. In hindsight, I'm a little thankful I didn't get a Bonnevile, as there was very little shop support in this area. My budget was $6k, and I went just a tick above that, but I felt it was a good buy given the low miles and the mods (exhaust, rear seat and bar, maintenance).

That's a good point, I actually live right around the corner from a Triumph dealer which would be convenient when needed.

I'm still not dead set yet so it might come down to whichever bike is the cleanest example I can find, we'll see.

    Good luck on your search!

I bought a Ninja 636 as my first street bike after riding dirt bikes growing up. Loved it but eventually I wanted something more comfortable for long rides, so I bought my first Harley in 2012. The 1200 still has some get up and go, although not as fast as my Ninja. I've never ridden a Bolt but I did ride the Triumph before deciding on the Harley. I don't think you can go wrong - it's still going to be much more comfortable than the crotch rockets.

I rented a Bonneville T100 in Florida. I was disappointed with the fake carb and only 5 speeds.

Thanks! So far I've ridden an older Sportster, it was a '98 883 with lots of work done to it. I liked it but definitely would rather a newer fuel injected 1200.

Also rode this Bolt at a Yamaha demo event, it's a pretty sharp looking bike in my opinion. Probably not as quick as the Harley but I don't need the fastest bike on the block.

I was at the dealer 3 times this summer, sitting on, contemplating a new sportster purchase. But talked myself out of it. Want to buy a street glide. My wife is not comfortable on my bike now.
