I havent gotten pulled over on the FZ, even though its crazy loud, and sometimes my average speed is 20 over. But the speed triple, i got 2 tickets. 80 in a 55 and 80 in a 45. Both written down to failure to observe a sign. Good thing too

what does everyone think about the Yamaha XT250? I found one that Ive been eyeing, but not really sure about it. I know it will be small/slower than the FZ, but I think im looking for a dual sport/supermoto as my next bike.

This is the one Ive been thinking about. It wont be for a while, and this one will probably sell before I am ready to buy. But its just a possibility.

I'm not working the road any longer but a few years back, a wheelie or unreadable tag (relocated behind the rear wheel) would get you a $1000.00 citation in Florida. Sometimes they stopped, sometimes they didn't, and sometimes they crashed attempting to flee.

The key question is how much dirt do you want to ride and will you ride?

well, the goal was to get a supermoto. This would just be a first stepping stone to that.. I figured its cheaper than buying a WR, and then converting it. I also dont know if there are any parts available to convert this, and I should just get a DRZ or WR in the first place.

I live in suburbia LOL. Dirt is a bit of a hike in almost any direction, and I dont know anyone with land.

Really the only thing you need to make dirt bikes a sumo is a new wheelset which isn't hard to do.

Hard to go wrong with the XT but the engine is very underpowered.

What else would one expect from a Yank-me fan.

We were speeding, but not by much. Officer McBoredGuy quoted 40 in a 35, through a small town in Central Maine. What had us hanging out for an extended visit was the dope who didn't have his ID or is insurance. Cop let us go with warnings; Dopey got cited for no proof of insurance.

Stockmonester had an unreadable plate because it was muddy. He probably hadn't gotten off his bike after his trail ride to check it, so the first he knew about it was when the sheriff told him so.

Nobody drew a gun or tried to run. Not sure where you're going here, unless you're one of those who thinks that everybody on a bike is out to cause problems?
In which case this is probably the wrong thread. :notsure:
If you're not trolling, then no harm no foul. Tough to read tone over the web.

If you don't mind not being able to take it on the highway, then they're great little dual sports

    Damn.
Lots of maintenance on their schedule.
That no-start at the 2-minute mark made me laugh, though.

Like bike maintenance today. Upgraded to braided brake lines, adjusted clutch, replaced fuel filter (whom ever thought putting it in the tank should be tarred and feathered), and change the gearbox oil.

Ordered speed bleeders and rear pads for it too. After repeatedly bleeding the rear brake it still feels loose. Not worth risking until I get some help over to bleed it some more. I would hate to have to pull the tank to get the the bleeders on the ABS unit again, but I might have to.

    @ fatfurious2

I really only have a problem with the fools riding dirt bikes and 4 wheelers down the road recklessly through traffic. Not sure where you're coming from? I liked your post for the break you were given for speeding. No hurt feelings report needed here.

Then no harm no foul. Like I said, hard to tell tone on the web. Bikers catch a lot of flak from people because of the dubs out there riding around like morons. As a former cop, that's the group you probably dealt with, so that makes it harder to guess what your angle was. :notsure:

Im not hurt feelings here. Im not one of those idiots giving bikers a bad name (not that Noel is either). I dont want to start anything, so I just drop it. I was just posting about when I got pulled over. I wasnt going crazy reckless or anything either. I always find myself playing the "gotta get away from the cars" game, when I ride. And sometimes that ends up as me doing 80, and not paying attention to the posted speed limits.

This was in the local news a while ago, and I just laugh at these fools. And also feel bad, because I am a biker, and these guys are giving us normal people, a bad name..

Speeding is one thing, stupidity is another. I've seen too many bike crashes in my career.

Thugs! If one of those assholes crashed in front of me, I wouldn't even stop!

I probably would've stopped the guy with the mud on his tag also. If his d/l and registration were valid, he would've got a warning and been on his way. The insurance ticket can get dismissed when he shows proof of insurance. Might be a small fine attached. Florida is terrible with no auto insurance. That shit didn't fly in New York.

A while ago I was thinking of moving to FL. I think their policies are if you have insurance, you dont need to wear a helmet. But if no insurance, must wear a helmet.

I have family in NY, so I go there often. I kind of want to ride there from VA, but also dont because Ive seen how crazy the drivers are.

I dont think ive ever been stopped and checked for insurance in VA. Its probably because if you dont have insurance here, you can pay a $500 fine when you register the vehicle, and just drive around with no insurance. But its just dumb because if you get into an accident, then you have to pay the big $. So why not just pay it in the beginning. Thats why its there.. Just in case.
