I dont think a 300f is really going to be going that fast..

Dual sport will be louder by design (they are naturally meant to flow more air) but i wear ear plugs and think its fine. Id rather have the airflow than less noise. Never experienced buffeting with it but if you take off the visor it is a noticeable difference in wind resistance

More of highway cruising speed if he's going to be doing any of that kind of riding. I cruised at 70-80 on my 300 sometimes and there was a noticeable difference between my old HJC and the Shoei. I would think a DS helmet especially with visor and less streamlined shape would be even worse at those speeds

Thanks for the quick input. I had a Dual sport helmet before and it fit well, vented well, and over all I liked the design of it. I think ill just get the same one I had before. AVS FX-39

I do it all the time. Its really not that noticeable unless you do back to back tests. Just a little less strain on holding your head up without the visor. Nothing i would ever complain about if i couldnt take the visor off.

Shoei is my preference. Can't go wrong with the RF-1200. The RF-SR is a nice option as well. Check out motorcyclecloseouts.com. They have quite a few RF-1200's that are less than $400 shipped.

Try Ebay when they do the 5-10% ebay bucks multiplier. Find a vendor who takes offers and offer 20% less than Buy It Now. See what they counter and cash in. Use the Ebay bucks for a spare visor. That's how I got my new RF-1200 for $400 a few months ago.

my RF-1200 is surprisingly loud. It's smaller than my RF-1000 and louder. I ordered the OEM ear pads because I thought they offered additional protection. Turns out, they're just stock replacements, so now I have a spare set of ear pads.

well the guy down the block from me just posted up his 2017 ktm 450 six days on craigslist for $7500 and I am jonesing like a crack head. Machine only has 51 hours on it and knowing it is less than 2 miles away sitting there waiting for me to take her home... the burning itch is real here.

meanwhile back in reality world, keeping things real tight budget minded my little pit bike rolling chassis project is making some painfully slow progress:

I wear foam ear plugs and it's nice, but I have ridden a couple times without them and the RF1200 is kinda loud. But I ride with earplugs 99% of the time so no biggie

Those six days bikes look so frickin sweet. Once I move where I want to live, I will get a 500 exc six days (and when I win the lotto, a 2 stroke 300 as well).

They are surprisingly good for the low price ~200. More planted in turns for sure (also bumped up Oil weight, only way to change rebound dampening with this fork), but still soaks up with bumps without being overly harsh. Overall a solid setup for the commuter. I would go cartridge on a race bike, but this is very solid for the money.

Speaking of Dual Sport helmets, I wear a Scorpion EXO AT950 on my Husky 701 Enduro, never had any issues even at triple digit speeds. The front visor is really nice for blocking the sun a little when I don't want to drop the inner tinted shield. It's also nice that it's modular and flips completely up.

I haven’t even gotten to ride it yet. Got all my paperwork from the insurance company yesterday. Going to be at the registry Friday morning for a new permit and registration. Then it’ll be time to get in the wind!!

Youll need a chain brush. I use maxima cleaner and wax. Id suggest investing in at least a rear stand to use while you work on the bike. Pitbull is expensive but great. Youll need spools for the rear swingarm

@Blais03 Just get a Pitbull and be done with it...you’ll be happier when you don’t have to be paranoid that a stand will dump your bike

I use Maxima cleaner and Motul chain wax...you can use a brush but I’m fairly gentle with it, don’t want to screw up the O-rings in the chain. Maybe overkill but I’m just that way I guess. Use a rag more than anything to clean

its only got 500 miles on it and its clean, just been sitting ahile
thanks for all the help guys. I actually have a motorcycle jack for my old bikes I’ll be using in the garage. Just did my oil change tonight on it. Now I know it’s fresh for the season. Im just gonna lube up the chain and be ready to roll. It’s a very new bike, just been sitting so I want to lube it. No need for anything fancy at this time.

Ordered hinge plates for a Bell Star which had a visor lock, after lots of careful dremeling finally have a working visor lock. No more visor flooping open when shoulder checking hopefully. Stupid the qualifier DLX has the lens that is visor lock capable but that couldn't be bothered adding a little plastic switch.
