    My first street bike was an 03 cbr600rr. After I totalled that one I went on to the 04 cbr1000rr. And haven't looked back. Yes the 600 are more nimble. But I like the power of my 1000.

    But I never recommend a beginner rider to a 1000 it's just not a good idea.

    With racing and track records a there isn't much difference between times of 600's & 1000's. Most guys don't have the
    balls or skillz to handle a 600 let alone a 1000. :bikewheelie2::bikewheelie2:

    I recommend something like a 2016-2019 Honda CB500F or 2007-2008 Suzuki SV650. Enough power to maneuver through traffic on the interstate but not enough that you have to worry about the bike getting away from you. Naked/ standard bikes generally weigh less than cruisers which is a big plus for a new rider. You dont want a bike that feels like a chore to move around.

    Similar. I think you will outgrow a 250/300 relatively quickly. Your budget is going to be the biggest hindrance. Going used is good but dont get something that has a lot of miles or requires a lot of attention. You want to be able to spend your time riding without worrying about breakdowns and other issues.

    Duly noted! Thanks again for the great advice, all. I will keep everybody updated once I move forward with the safety/license classes.

    But a cruiser has a lower seat, which increases leaning confidence

    Haha no, but it's actually a common thing for Dyna guys. I got the idea from here:

    https://www.bigalscycles.com/products/big-als-cycles-dyna-saddle-bag-kit

    But ain't no way I'm paying that much for something I can make for $30 in materials plus the cases. I found china knock-off pelican cases through a local distributor that were essentially half price of actual Pelicans. Probably could've use HF Apache cases and saved even more money but I wanted flip-top over traditional clamshell cases for convenience and ease of use. All said and done I have under $200 for these bags and I can easily sell the whole setup for $500 and build another set.

    I've always liked the Sporty scramblers. I still kinda want the factory scrambler/tracker XL1200 (Correction: XR1200), but its harder to find one that isn't beat to shit. Those bikes were made to be ridden hard. Should be easy enough to build one with a current model 1200 though. 14" rear stiletto shocks and extended front shocks and the seat pan from Biltwell or Roland Sands. The aftermarket loves Sportys.

    I was reading the post. I guess that one has a KTM front end and 15" rear shocks.

    I put 14" shocks on the XS750 and it's pretty tall. I have a long inseam and can still flat foot while on the bike, but for anyone shorter than me (6'1") it might be a challenge.

    Shit man, you'll be close enough. I could meet you for a ride on PCH. Hit me up.
    I'm about 45 min north of there. You'll probably pass right by me on the way down.
