I suppose. a lot of attributes surround this argument. if i used economical tires and didn't properly set up my suspension etc and lacked confidence in my capabilities id probably be all for ABS.

Well, I'm truly I'm awe of the miraculous talent lurking I'm this thread.

I've had dozens and dozens of close calls, only one incident (on a non abs bike, ironically.....). The number of incidents are directly proportional to the sheer volume of miles you spend on 2 wheels. Have I avoided any incidents simply because I'm a ninnie girl with ABS? Who knows. Maybe. I do know that ABS didn't make those situations any worse so that's cool..... Would I have avoided my one ambulance ride if I was on an ABS bike? You bet your ass I would have. Situational awareness is not just looking out for what COULD happen, it's also remembering what HAS happened, and not repeating what didn't work.

I'll be much more inclined to listen to ABS opinions from a quiet guy in a dirty aerostich suit than from a squid who immediately wants to tell me how many wheelies they popped on the interstate.....

I don’t see any need for people to take offense, it’s a good discussion about technology and motor vehicles in general. I personally likely have more riding experience than many and don’t own a bike with ABS or traction control. My own track bike and former race bike is a 1998 Ducati 996 that was a former AMA Pro-Thunder bike (with the old 800cc 748 engine). I’m certainly not a “fast” guy...

As a suspension guy, we have supported teams that have used it. Our current sponsored team is leading the national points in the ASRA endurance series on last years R1 Yamaha. I’ll say that definitely the electronics were the most difficult aspect of the bikes setup last year.

for sure one the of the two bikes we supported during the two years we ran the Suntrust endurance season which had ABS we couldn’t get bypassed soon enough. All that stuff gets better and like traction control, can be better than any rider. It is still the fact (politically incorrect content to follow) “it ain’t the bow, it’s the Indian”:D

I don’t know any racers who do much crazy stuff on the street. I don’t know all the racers either.

my heart is in doing stupid shit on the street, i've turned it way back since i've started racing but my 50% effort in the canyons still makes people think im fucking nuts.. spending so much time outta control has taught me a ton about control.

I had a customer drop one off at my place for a couple days (turned into a couple weeks because he couldn't make time to come get it). I was building a tube bumper for it. They're a shit ton of fun. I had "test drive" it to make sure all the electronics were in working order before and after I worked on it.

None, I'm comfortable with my size
Never done a wheelie, squids are total trash.
I've put 50k street/mtn miles on 2 sport bikes in full gear. 100k miles, I've seen it all and lost friends.
I normally silently judge and stay away from riders just based on how their TIRES look. I would listen to the guy with balls of rubber from edge to edge on both tires.

Are you the green 98 avoiding the guy that lost the front?
Braking hard, with the rear tire off the ground, in a corner, avoiding accident. And no ABS. Inconceivable!

Not at all inconceivable and a great bit of braking skill to do it. I don’t think anyone has argued that ABS is better than skill, it’s just another option that can be of huge benefit when needed. A bike with ABS can do that same hard, controlled stop but a bike without ABS can’t prevent the wheels from locking up if you snatch the brakes too hard or the surface condition changes under you while braking.

No, it cant. I can out brake ABS users. ABS has actually almost made me crash.

nah, guy on the ground that just tucked the front. 98 is my besty trying not to run me over. If he had ABS, he would have ran me over probably

    this isn't very nice now...
honestly be real, riding wheelies is just another skill of being a good rider
some have the skill others don't
just like the ability to drop a knee properly
not everyone is a full package rider

bike control is everything, I think this is something we could all agree on...
