I don’t find it that necessary, I’m in Virginia where summers are hot/rain and winters are cold/snow and ice and before I got my taco I would ride 365 days a year because it was all I had. Honestly, if you’re smooth with your braking and know when to use the front/rear properly, you’ll never break your tires loose rain or shine.

That’s all fine and dandy, but it’s not always up to you when someone pulls out in front of you and you have to brake hard and fast. You probably don’t need abs 99% of the time. But that 1% time you need it may just save your ass

You should ALWAYS have an escape route planned while you’re riding, always be scanning for threats because braking is usually pretty low on that list. You can lean over and avoid a bad situation a hell of alot faster than braking

I kinda still am against ABS. But I get the safety thing. Its a pain to change when I upgrade the bars. Now I have to get an additional box thing.

Im going to order the bars and grips next week. Then gotta get some ABS brake lines after that. Still need to get my solo bag and that armored hoodie, and I should be set for a while. Maybe one of those LED headlights later in the summer

^this. It’s all maintenance stuff. Just like your truck, you learn as you go but it all becomes really easy once you’re familiar. Either way it’s good to know your way around the bike.

Bring it on over! We‘ll have the same bike so it’ll be same stuff for both of us.

Ya the bars may suck. I think I liked the stock bars when I test rode. But I may (probably) will get slightly higher bars eventually. But I’ll deal with it then. It’ll be a one and done thing so it’s really not that big of an inconvenience. I just want my damn bike so I can ride! I will probably order a Kevlar flannel and armor for it tonight as well

I thought the 1k service was just them checking torque on everything. I dont have the FSM, so I dont know what to look for.

It is torque on everything and also an oil change too. I figure I’ll pay the price the first time since they know all the things to do for the first service, check all the nuts and bolts make sure nothing is out of whack. Then after that, I’ll do it all myself. I’d rather work and learn my own bike anyways

It is. Double checking all the critical fasteners that they adjusted during initial set up (uncrating the bike). This part is similar to what you would do to a truck you just installed the suspension on- check everything and make sure nothing vibrated loose.

Also engine and primary oil changes, plus those "multi-point inspection" points (checking abnormal wear on tire tread, brake pads, etc). Usually turns up nothing but I wouldn't be surprised if the techs don't half-ass that part of it.

Brian, I have the Softail FSM in PDF form that I bought a while back- most if not all of that info should still translate to your 2019. PM me your email and I can send you a copy.

if you do prepay the service- make sure it’s transferable to a different dealer. I negotiated the service to be thrown in, but they wouldn’t let me go to a different dealer for it. So I had to roll back across town to get it done.
