Well, 2 days on droid. (switched from iphone cuase at&t stunk)
anyway, it's a learning curve having left the iphone. Miss things like app updates... seems you need to search for them... apple notified you. Miss being to copy / paste from emails/web and messages.
1st impressions. It will do, but will probably jump ship to a better phone when they show up next year.... Verizon is better service in my area and the 3G is thumbs up

updates have all been automatic for me but if you are having issues you can use an app called Trackdog (think thats how its spelled) and it will track your apps and alert you to updates

you can copy and paste. you can either use the alt key and the arrow keys on teh keyboard or double click to select. then just do a long hold on the word and options will pop up, one of which is copy and paste.

I don't have one, but I get an upgrade soon and might switch to the Droid. I like the slide out keyboard...because I have a Voyager and the touch screen screwed up on it and din't work so I HAD to use the keyboard. Not sure if i'll ever get a fully touchscreen phone because of that reason.

Any keypad is going to have a learning curve. On screen or tactile. also on the silicone case thing. I dont think you really need one. the whole back is rubberized. Im just using a screen protector and being careful with mine. Besides with a case you cant use the docks and i have 3 , 2 home docks and one car dock that i love!

so wait, do you have the car dock that you get from VZ? the one with the magnet to activate car mode? if so can you snap a pic of it in your taco? i really want it but i'm afraid it will be too big and have been wanting to see a pic of it in my truck before i buy

Yeah ... ill get a pic later today. I love it. I use it all the time. It only keeps your phone awake when you are actually navigating. I'm going to do a hardwire for power soon. I have bluetooth speaker phone on in my truck but i just press the mic button on the screen and say "Dial Mom" and it connects to my mom. Its freakin awesome.

I was told you can not suf and talk at the same time correct? I am planning on switching over in Jan when my contract with AT&T ends. Its kind of good timing since by Jan people would have a better idea which phone is better. The two thing I don’t like about the droid is how thick it is and it feels a bit flimsy compared to the iphone.

I actually called AT&T and asked about cancellation fees and they were all over the down side of the droid and the 5x map commercial.

flimsy? this is the most solid phone i've ever held except for the iphone. it is a bit thicker and WAY less ergonomic. its ugly and has some sharp edges. overall, the design could be better, but what it can actully do is pretty amazing

I'm just used to the solidness of the iphone I guess.

Yeah... well remember. The Talk and surf at the same time is not permanent. Verizon will be rolling out their nation wide LTE/4G in the not too distant future. I believe AT&T has no plans currently with LTE. at that time the speeds available on Verizon will make AT&T look down right stone age as well as allowing talk and surf at the same time. Something else to consider with the droid is that Android is going to roll out in force in 2010. the number of devices running it is going to be crazy. What this means is that add development is going to skyrocket as the install base does. Go surf the android forums and see how much dev activity there has been just since the droid launch.

This is the glory of android and all that is evil about apple. If you dont like the droid there are lots of other android phones to choose from that all run the same apps. If you dont care for the physical keyboard and want thinner the I suggest you wait for the HTC Passion.

I have a myTouch, and I absolutely love it. I came from an iPhone, too, but had Apple screw me over and was unhappy with my service. Took a bit of learning to get used to not using my iPhone, but I'm completely satisfied with it and like it a lot better. Just need to get more apps/games on the market, but other than that, A+.

so, can you charge your phone while its in the dock? i know the dock doesn't charge it but if you have a car charger do you have access to the usb port on the phone? so if you are not in navigation mode, the phone still falls asleep? thats pretty cool. one of the reasons i got this phone was because i desperately need a gps and this is about the same price as a standard gps and seems to be about as good.

Yeah but if it takes them a year or two to roll out the upgrade it’s useless to me; the Droid would be outdated by then. Not to mention whenever a phone company makes any significant changes to their network their service goes to hell.

We’ll see, AT&T is in the process of spending three billion to expand their network and my contact doesn’t end until Jan. I’ll have to see how things are then. AT&T service in so cal isn’t’ that bad, I think it’s more of an Iphone issue then the carrier. I’m already on my 6th freakin Iphone; i'm ready to move on.

Yes you can still charge while in the car dock and unless you're actively navigating the phone will go to sleep.

    Too many to list

I had the voyage for almost 2yrs before I got the droid. I bought the droid just because it has a keyboard aswell, I work at a welding shop and want the option to use a keyboard instead of the touch. But after using this phone for a few weeks now, it has a far better touch screen then the voyager and I dont forsee it failing like the voyager did.

I would also like to see a picture of the car dock in a car to see how it really looks. And I just realized why my phone goes into car mode when i take it out my leather case, I didnt know it was magnet activated, haha.
