    Bone stock so far!
For a 99 Taco! From someone who knows absolutely nothing about installing a winch, would this be able to be mounted directly to the frame underneath my stock front bumper? With a hole cut through the bumper to access it? Thanks for any input. :D

    Great looking truck!

I think I'd seek another mounting method than mangling a nice OE bumper.

I appreciate it, thank ya. I’m not a big fan of steel bumpers, they look great for 6 months and then always rust :(

    when mounting a hitch
has to sit on a platform/bracket
    sold separately
has to match vehicle and hitch mount pts(usually universal or slotted holes in platform/bracket)
    OR
purchase a brush guard with a platform!

    clean taco!!!!!!!!!!!

o_O My armor only rusts when the rocks scratched the paint off, and I didn't re apply the rattle can...

To your question though, what you're looking for is a hidden winch mount. This was the first result on google for a 1st gen: 01-04 Toyota Tacoma Hidden Winch Mount | AMP'd up LLC (ampdupllc.com)

There are some other threads here that also cover them.

There's a guy on FB that makes "hidden winch mounts" for these trucks. You keep your stock bumper but you'll be able to run a winch with it. You might have to cut your bumper though. His name is Albert Pigman and he runs Amp'd Up LLC

    I have a '98, and the AMP'd up mount.
here's how it attaches to the frame ends, plus the lower bumper mounts.

Depending on the winch, whether you remote locate the controller, you may have more or less to cut on the bumper assembly. I would do things a bit different if I were to get a replacement bumper. I am running the more expensive Badlands winch with synthetic rope and did not relocate the controller assembly.

I originally cut more of the lower bumper than I needed, so I fab'd up a piece of HDPE and use a hinge to mount the license plate, which allows access to the free/spool lever.

Not sure if they make it for pre 2001’s but I’ve got the amp’d llc offering.
