2x4 with bolts in the corners that go through the rear tie downs when the bed is closed. Boards on top keep it at an angle and hold the front wheel carrier.

Pretty clever! My first version of this type of bike mount used a long bar with big giant magnets that would just magnet-grip to the metal bed.

Thanks, I definitely used your setup as inspiration for this one.

Posted in the mountain bike hauling thread but curious if you guys had any input as well. Don't want a hitch rack. Decided I want to mount over the bed above my tonneau. Are the mobtown or kb voodoo bars my only option?

I went with a simple 2x4 shaved down to right width with d-ring connectors in the sides and the fork mount in the middle. Works great - but will not fit if you have a camper shell.

depends on how high you want the bike? just bars a few inches over, mobtown, kb voodoo, and another company make bars that work with a tonneau. if you want a full rack then voodoo and uptop make racks that work with a tonneau

I use a Yakima tailgate pad for all my bikes with larger tires, for my road and gravel bikes I use a roof rack.
I've noticed my older mtb bikes (ones with steep head tube angles) and ones with round tubing and ones with fork cages never seem to stay upright on the tailgate pad so I made a cross bar to hold the rear wheel.
I just drove from Minnesota to Bentonville with 3 bikes in my bed and the bikes didn't move at all with the cross bar supporting the rear wheels.

As low pro as possible. Don't want a full rack so was eyeing the voodoo crossbars. Was just curious if anyone had seen other options I missed.

Picturing in my head something similar to the squareone creations side mounts, but that pivot in and sit on top of the oem tonneau.

Who makes the cross bar you are using?

Here’s my current setup. It works but the bikes get heavier each time, or I’m just tired of putting it up on the roof rack. This is a great thread with lots of possible options.

It's a Harbor Freight cross bar with a RockyMounts Monorail hitch rack wheel cup, a RockyMounts Jetline bar clip, and a M6 bolt/nut.
Cost me about $50 to make it.

How far do you travel with the bikes up there? Also I don't know if my eyes are deceiving me but are all the front tires removed and in a separate slot?

Farthest trip was about 4 hours in the Texas hill country. I can definitely feel the wind drag and was averaging around 15 mpg. And yes, the tires are in separate tire holders. So it takes a little time to mount, but it works. I’d like to get a bike rack on the side of the bed rack though.

We have 4 bikes but it's usually just my sons and me going out to the trails. We use the Kuat and it's a huge upgrade from our old Yakima 4 Double Down.

Does your tailgate hit the rack at all when you try to put it all the way down? I have a Rockymounts Monorail, and the tailgate hits when it still has about 1" more to go.

Rocky mounts monorail with the 3rd bike extension. Pic is me going solo but usually have my 2 boys with me. This rack is built tough, huge upgrade from the kuat transfer I had that wore out in 3 yrs. Pic makes.it look way longer than it is.20210404_122856.jpg

Yes, it does. I bought the Kuat Hi-Lo so when we go camping I can lower the tail gate. https://shop.kuat.com/parts/accessories/hi-lo. When we we go to the trails we don't use the Hi-Lo because we son't have to put the tailgate down.
