I use a delta fork in the front bed rail. Unfortunately the bike is a size 56 so i need to take the front wheel out make it fit. I hate taking the front wheel out though cause its a 700x28 wheel and i need to air it down to take the wheel out. So i just throw the bike in the truck bed now lol. DCSB

Seriously, get the EVOC bed pad. https://amzn.to/2SmO10Y It's just the easiest solution. I clear bra my tailgate (and my mountain bikes for that matter) and it's survived years of abuse with nary a scuff.

If you have a 6ft bed it will fit, though you might have to angle it a bit corner to corner if your bike has a longer wheelbase.

If you have a short bed, it won't fit laying down with the front wheel on. My small 27.5 just barely fit in my Gen1 bed and I had to turn the wheel and bars up a bit. You may be able to strap it in standing upright with the bike angled to one corner and front wheel up against the front of the bed.

The EVOC is awesome I'm very happy with my purchase and the deal I got. The graphics don't really bother me since I can take it on and off relatively easily and only use it when I'm headed out with the MTB. Plus the olive color looks kinda cool against my inferno.

I got a Bomber Strap and am digging it. Super quick and easy to put it on the truck and then mount my bike to it.

I was sketched at first because I thought it could damage the truck but it has thick dense padding, keeps the bike nice and secure and there is a strap that you run from the handle to the seat to prevent the wheel from making contact with the tailgate. Very simple yet effective design and I like that it's small enough to throw in the seat storage compartments.

I have a Ridgelander cover. I will never ever use a hitch rack again. Got rear ended once and it destroyed both bikes. It was almost impossible to get the drivers insurance to cover the bikes. This cover works great. All my gear is locked under the cover while I’m out riding. Out of site out of mind

I'll probably still add a hitch rack for when I need the bed space for multi day travel, but I can have the EVOC on and loaded with bikes in a matter of minutes and off to the trails. Super easy.

I am really glad that worked out for you. What a simple but very effective solution those tailgate pads are. Best of luck to you !

I either use a fork mount attached to the bed rail or a rack on top of 80/20 bars.

Curious to hear how the insurance played out. I got rear ended in a friends truck with three bikes over the tailgate. The other driver's insurance paid for new forks and wheels for each of us upon providing quotes, no questions asked. And the threw in an extra $500 each to sign off on any pain and suffering. Other driver had Mercury insurance. Apparently they are really good to deal with! I have a hard time seeing how any insurance company could argue to get out of paying for damage to bikes cause by a driver who rear ends another car. It is pretty black and white who is at fault there.

Insurance is so shitty. Because bikes have their own wheels, they need their own insurance (according to our lovely insurance overlords). Not worring about extra coverage it isn't really a problem if you are dealing with an average bike, but when you get into high-end bikes, my Nomad retails for over $8k, then it can become a PITA dealing with insurance real quick who will freak out at the idea of a $2,500 set of CF wheels.

I called my agent and informed them of my bikes and their value. I'm with USAA and they are pretty awesome and didn't even raise my premiums, but some companies will add an ultra-small added charge to cover your bikes. But once your bike is covered, it's a lot of peace of mind. My buddy (also with USAA) was cycling in Italy, had a car pull out in front of him, he crashed, the bike was destroyed. He called his agent, and went and bought a new bike the next day, and continued his vacation.

Those Bomberstraps are pretty cool, I didn't know about them until I saw this thread.

I have an OEM tonneau cover with Mobtown bed bars. I like the flexibility of mounting my Yakima bikes racks or RTT with bike racks (1 for now, working on an extension to fit 2).

Just sharing more ideas, there's a lot of good stuff here.
