IMO only good setup is a hitch rack setup. Easiest to load/unload/secure over putting in the tailgate or in the bed. If you need unrestricted access to the bed at all times, there are racks that swing away.

    I mean. Not bad.

When there's no bikes in it can you lower the tailgate?

    I have a cap.
A hitch mounted one-up works great for my 3 bikes.
I can lower the tailgate with 1 (maybe 2 bikes on there...)

1UP really is worth it. I’ve tried everything. Not a bad color, eh @Xbowguy and @RubyTaco21 ?

https://www.ride88.com/toyota-tacoma any bike rack that requires you to remove your front wheel is kind of silly imo. I run a 1UP myself and a Yakima Hangover whenever riding with the boys

How's the clearance with your tailgate when it's down?

The tailgate rests about an inch and a half above the bottom tray. It’s close but not too close.

Rocky Mount after party swing out rack is working great. It clears the tail gate as well!

I have the same rack without the swing out. I love it. Does it feel pretty solid with the swing arm? Looks like it doesn't stick out to far with it.

It is very solid. The swing out is secured with a threaded rod with a nice aluminum handle, and each section that moves has a spring-loaded detent to keep it from moving around while fully or partially extended.

Minimal movement or sag when loaded and fully extended out and nearly none on the road over bumps.

My only complaint is the weight; it's a bit heavy, but it's very compact for a two-bike swinging rack. I might grab a one-bike non-swinging rack to just leave on the truck 24/7.

I agree! It definitely hurt, but still cheaper than other swing out racks

Tailgate pad is extremely easy to use, and saves so much time loading and unloading

Tailgate pad is probable the easiest and cheapest route if you want to use your bed. I ended up with a 1UP I found on FB Marketplace (yes I feel like I stole it) . Its easy on/off, except that its heavy.
